3200 knocking sound when moving

I was driving home and accidentally pressed the pwr button, I then heard a clicking noise when driving forward and reversing not sure if it's just a coincidence.

I think it's coming from the wheels on the offside, later in the week I will ask a friend to listen out whilst on the driveway. I can hear it driving at very low speeds, it's louder the faster I go.

No CELs on the dash, if this sounds familiar let me know thanks.

Cheers, there's a chap with an old Ghibli nearby I've talked it through with him & he is popping round. He has a trolley jack to get underneath. Will post an update.

Pwr button? Is it the same as "sport" button? Possibly coincidental. Handbrake shoes maybe?

Not had any noises like that on mine
Mind you it's a bit difficult to tell now.
I do get a click when selecting drive or reverse - bit of slack in the drive chain I think

DO check the bolts on the differential to the driveshaft mine broke!

Will check the handbrake shoes, don't laugh but I've never passed the pwr button before, only noticed when it lit up on the dash. The characters are all worn out.

65k is the recommended change time I think
I am on 60k almost so will drive in reverse for a week, just changed aux belt and cam belt at the front at the weekend, waiting for some new spark plugs

Whilst underneath mine I noticed the brake cooling ducts where full of small stones - when you tap them they rattle.
Not sure how I am going to get them out, a long bendy tube attached to a Hoover probably the easiest solution

Ok so I've asked the wife to listen on the drive before leaving, she said is sounds very similar to riding a bicycle and the brakes are rubbing or a piece of body work is rubbing against something. The sound is coming from the rear offside wheel. Off to work now, tomorrow I am home in the morning so going to jack it up and have a look at the wheel with a friend.

I checked and the tyre tread is clean with no stones.

Did you just see this while inspecting or was there a particular noise.

No just tapped them when underneath - "sounded like small stones rattling in a plastic pipe" which is exactly what it is!
I am with Catman here - handbrake shoes!!

Plenty of threads on here about replacement and some good photos. Its an easy job, jack up car and support it, remove road wheel, remove calipers and tie up out of the way, remove bolt from hub, remove hub (that can be the difficult bit if the shoes have disintegrated)
I spent a lot of money a couple of years ago on new shoes - get the OEM re lined from Belfast Brakes c£40 they FIT, discs and pads only to find it was the cable that had frayed and wasn't working (c£30)

Oh yes and I was missing a small pin from the mechanism (which is archaic) David Askew sent me one in the post

Cheers, subject to a dry day we will remove the wheel. I did notice there was a slight noise when I undid the hand brake this morning so shoes are the prime suspect at the moment.
