Does anyone know how hard the paint is on a 32 to help me select the most suitable polishes/compounds for detailing? Can ask on DW but thought I would ask here first.

Detailing world = DW

Paint is by PPG, best note to use others I was told

P

Thanks birthday boy! Mostly hologram and swirls needing removed by the DA with just a little wall rash and some stone chips to sort paint wise so my paint guy made me some water base matched paint which when mixed with top lacquer and applied with a thinner soaked micro cloth works a treat for little jobs like these. Guessing as best practice, I'll start with a really mild abrasive and work up the way if needed.
Still waiting to be moderated on DW but if I get an answer there I'll post up here too.

hi Greg - hope the misses is well...

early italian paint was soft with Ferrari being one of the softest, however the gransport paint I found be harder than expected so would say your OK to start as you suggested

maybe suggestion - start with 3M (yellow top) with low cut pad and if not getting the results from this combo then move up in pad to med cut. if still not working move to 3M (green top) and low cut pad then med cut pad and so on.

for info - I found this doc online which may help with other cars - I would use this only as a guide, you should always test a compaound / pad combo on an area first

Thanks, that advice useful. Never got round to doing any of the detailing/correcting, it was just too cold up her to get the best from paint and compounds but will report back once the weather improves enough..........July time?:saifi3:

Is it too bad to be able to clay bar it Greg..??

Not at all Robert. In fact other than a few swirls and holograms to remove and about an inch of a wall rash on the front bumper to touch up she is perfect.........if you don't include the wishbone that is! Lol
Has just been too cold to work compounds this week and paint ime does not take well in cold damp weather, even small touch ups.

Agreed, but clay will get the swirls and grains out, not scrapes but not much would without a touch up..??

Clay will get the contaminants out nothing more.

Yup, spot on phil. Needed to get rid of any contaminants and old polish, wax etc before any new coats are built up. To remove swirls etc you need to use compound/ polish.
