Just having and look see this afternoon in Sainsbury's at the mags

In the Classic and Sportscar price guide, they had top class Maserati 3200's down at around £10,400..

What planet are these people on... nice example's are way into the 20's now

As there's so few cars for sale, one wonders how do these magazines come up with theses ridiculous prices!

Who are Classic and Sportscar anyway? As far as the 3200 is concerned I don't take any notice of any valuation, it's a car that is so individual you just can't put an "x" amount on it. On the other hand ,if their valuation is correct, I'll take 2.....

It takes a buyer and a seller and the right price. What I can see from looking over the past few months is that there are more sellers than buyers around. Hence the really nice 3200 which has been on Mcgrath’s site all year and has just sold after 12 months. Years ago, it took me nearly a year to sell my Ghibli and I believe that it will be the same when I come to sell the GS I am buying. Fortunately as it’s a second car, I’ll be able to take my time. I do wonder however if people who’ve both QPs or new Ghiblis will be able to sell. Though I suppose they’re all on PCP so it’s not their problem.

You do see o few now in the 20's.....but do they sell at that price....Asking is one thing getting is another with these cars. Most still seem to be under 20k though but 10k does feel a bit silly. But then Phils was a top car and even he struggled. Very, very, very limited market.

For the collector or even someone buying as a weekend toy, the manual is preferred so gets more money. I think Phil was unlucky to only get £11k for his, but it wasn't especially low mileage and was an auto in silver. A darker coloured, lower mileage manual is what you need if it is to sell in the twenties.

Prices are going to take a hit as parts availability becomes more of an issue, because of the low volumes produced initially there's no cottage industry supporting the marque! We need more men in sheds....

That valuation means I haven't lost any money on mine since I purchased in 2009 so 31 thousand miles later and no depreciation can't be bad.

Seriously, a good 3200 should with a inspection report and good history and recent service should fetch £15k. My friend has a 993 C4S, a really good one and he has been offered £80K for it. My 3200 does not handle as well but, looks better is quicker, more practical and a better car for touring, although I my be a little bias.

It’s not better looking than a 993 c4s. Not in a million years. That’s why the 993 is so valuable. As well as the air cooled thing.

I think my car is the one referred to above - actually it was on sale for about 7 months, and went for the sale price, albeit after dropping the original asking price by £1k. I think a good 3200 is still an appreciating asset. Not sure I agree that the manual is worth more - I've met many people who have tried both auto and manual and preferred the former. Plus some buyers will be frightened by endfloat stories, which affect the manual most. They are a very niche car though, and I think that maybe the current price range of 10 -20k attracts tyre-kickers. The car mags fuel the fantasy of getting a perfect older exotic for a knock-down price and running it on a shoestring. The truth is that they are all made of expensive bits, are now 15 years old or more, and they can't be run on the same budget as a 3 year-old hatchback. Having said that, I do feel that the 3200 gets an undeserved drubbing, even from some independents. For me it's the last and best expression of the Biturbo-era hand-made Maseratis (just), with all the pleasures and frustrations that come with such a unique car. It's certainly the most beautiful car I've ever had, and I enjoyed it a lot.

I did say l was a little biased but l don't think the 911 is better looking than a 3200 or GS. They are well put together and service costs are cheaper because there are so many Indies offering competition. So it may be a better car but 70k better?

I have not had any problems with parts but l understand some items are a now a problem but that is the same for lots of classic cars, but there will always be a solution.

I think it's also where the cars are being advertised that seem to have some difference in price... Certainly the case in a certain white auto that's been on PH on and off. (Think its been previously mentioned in a different thread here) Just saw it on flea bay for £25k while the PH ad has it around £9k
Any way I can mirror Phil's experience with having mine on and off the market for near a year... And still have it

The fact I paid £4K, £7k and £11k for all mine is irrelevant :D

I know where your coming from Phil.. but the way things are going nice very low miles example's are going to rule the roost in a couple of years time and if it's also just had a recent 10k engine rebuild too! Just ask Dickie..
