3200 wheels rubbing suspension

Hi all,
I have a slight problem with my 3200.
It was due for its MOT (or actually, the equivalent of that here in The Netherlands) but there is a strange problem.
When the front wheels are unsprung and in the air, and full lock is applied the the steering, the tires touch the suspension and ARB.
Only slightly, but they touch nonetheless. And that is MoT failure, even if it is a situation that does not occur when driving (full lock with wheels unsprung? I don't do Paris-Dakar...)
Anybody has the same experience? It most likely can be solved by using 5 mm spacers on the front, but it still puzzles me. (it has no spacers at all now)
It is on both sides equally.
Is there a possibility to prevent the steering turn in that much (the last 5mm of travel)?

That's normal.... why would you need to turn the steering lock to lock when the suspension's on full drupe anyway

That's not normal suspension checking procedure, lots of cars with wide front wheels would do the same

How about fitting two space savers on the front just for the test ;)

I can't believe that is an actual roadworthy test? It makes no sense to me, but as said spacer's to get you through.

I think i would be taking it to a different garage for its MOT equivalent test. As previously said its normal on these cars when the suspension isnt loaded and many other cars.

If its a fail why has it passed every other year ?

Ive just had a look at the APK checklist for suspension and steering and as far as i can see there is no stipulation that the suspension should be unloaded prior to testing.

If you think about it the shocks would probably fail the test when the wheels are off the ground and not under load.

Something doesnt seem right with the way they are testing and the fact it has passed the APK previous years with the same set up without issue.

I have had the car for one year now, and the previous APK/MoT was done by the seller when I was on holiday, so a different garage.
And before that it was in Switzerland...so I can't use the argument that I had it passed the tests here the same way last year...
But you are all right that it is a ridiculous way of testing. It is done right after the check for play in the suspension and wheel bearings, so then the wheels are still up in the air.
But if the official checklist does not mention the way of testing, one could argue that it also could be tested the way they did, so that is a difficult discussion...

But good to know that it is standard to have things rubbing when tested this way.

All solved, and the car passed the test.
I started the discussion with the garage, and they said Oh well, if they do not rub when sprung, then it is no problem....

Did the mechanic utter the word DOH ! While slapping himself on the forehead.
If he didnt he should be doing so repeatebly :frusty6:
