3200GT Boot Catch Problem

Had huge problems today with trying to get the boot lid to stay closed on my 2001 3200GT. Gentle slamming didn't work but applying a constant pressure down on the lid does eventually allow it to catch. However, if I then apply a bit of brute upwards force on the boot, it will open again! I noticed that the catch mechanism inside the boot part has been 'heavily' greased (previous owner?) but presume it does need some adjustment.

Anyone have any ideas/tips to make it more more positive catch or how to adjust it please?

I had the same problem but if you take down the trim from the bootlid so that you can get to the catch, there is a lot of adjustment available when you slacken off the bolts. A generous spray of WD40 on the mechanism wouldn't go amiss either, the grease tends to attract & hold dirt which then reduces their efficiency

I was shown when I got mine to drop the boot lid from about 2 inches high, works every time, whereas slamming never seems to work.

Thanks guys. I've just tried the gentle dropping from a couple of inches but that doesn't work. Reverted to the gently applied pressure and this does seem to work more often than not. As I've not had the car long, perhaps its user error? Will need to find the knack soon though to avoid any further embarrassing moments at the supermarket for sure! May still tinker at the weekend and see if there is any adjustment left, I noticed the catch inside the boot area has already been lifted up as high as the slots will allow so will check the bootlid side as LincsOSCA suggested.

Mine's weird too, drop it the first time it never fully latches, the second time It's perfect, whats that all about, It's been like that ever since Iv'e owned it.
I must admit Iv'e never tried any adjustments though...

Just back from a visit to an expert for other items that needed to be checked out. The mechanic there suggested that the gently applied pressure method is the way to go. Adjustment only if the boot still won't catch after doing this but as most of you have stated, slamming will not work. I will not now be tinkering with the mechanism this weekend but work on my technique with the gentle approach.
