Hi all,

I can smell coolant when I get out of the car and there is little green goo on the back of one fan.

Does anyone have a pic of how the cooling system fits together before I start with the spanners? I looked in the manual but cooling system chapter seems to be absent..

I'm hoping there is a hose above the rad somewhere in the nose that needs attention and not the rad itself but I fear the worst.

Many thanks in advance! Toby

Sounds like a coolant leak inside the car, could be the heater matrix/radiator...Just strip it out, you'll soon find it..

Youv'e got to remember these are now old cars and this sort of problem is fairly normal...

Agreed, if you can smell it near the car then it is more than likely radiator related. Could also be the ones inside the plenum area! Good luck!

Dead on there Phil,..but we must emphasize here that all this dash/heater strip down stuff is fairly easy DIY and costs nothing if you want to give a go!

Thanks, coolant smell definitely coming from left side of front grille rather than cabin.

If I drop the coolant (does it even have a traditional "bottom hose"?) do I refill it through the expansion tank or elsewhere? Yes Dave, all very well pulling it to bits but a a daily driver it has to go back together too :)

Refill is simple.
Pour coolant in the expansion tank until it's full.
Start the car and bring it to temperature for the thermostat to open.
Coolant level will then drop and you have to top it.

Dropping the coolant is messy.
Open the radiator hoses and let it pour down to the floor with an appropriate container to catch it
