Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of modifying my 3200GTA exhaust system. I still have the original exhaust system fitted but would like to car to sound a bit more aggresive ie. heavier sound. I read something about Larini pipes etc but have no idea what to do. Did anything on this Forum change to a more sportier exhaust system and if so, what type and what costs should I think of ? What about MOT ? I'm located in Belgium if anyone knows a good address to fit a new exhaust system

Many thanks,

Save a few grand and get a local exhaust fabricator to knock up some straight through pipes for the rear. I had mine done for about £400 in stainless

I had Larini back boxes on mine, nice deep gurgle yet not too unobtrusive is the best way to describe them.

My 3200 has a full Larini system and i have to say i am pretty happy with the sound it makes. Video posted by the previous owner with a GoPro stuck to the back looking down. Search for ‘Maserati 3200 Assetto Corsa Larini Exhaust’on Youtube.

Being an old bugger, nowadays I prefer things to be on the quite side

I didn't say slow though:wink:

I find that annoying drone sound is around 2000rpm and worst at 50mph on an A road than at motorway speeds. Not as annoying or as loud as my TVR. The old school auto box helps here as i tend to zip along at 3000 rpm on the motorway where the speed sucks away the noise. It’s pretty civilised.

You could remove the centre cat, cut and weld in an new straight section or X pipe. The easiest method for more sound gains is to remove the rear boxes and go straight through or Larini etc....

Decat (centre)

Decat plus straight rears.

So I have been investigating over here in Belgium what the implications are for changing *anything* on the exhaust system. The Belgium MOT only allows replacement exhaust parts which have been certified by the manufacturer for this type of car or otherwise: *fail inspection* and you get a notice that you are forbidden to drive one meter further with the car. So what is possible here: just after the annual inspection, unscrew let say the rear muffler and replace with a sports one (without any type of certification). Then, just before the annual MOT again, replace with the original part again.

Well, my car just past the Belgium MOT with the original exhaust system, so now it's time to replace the rear muffler with a sporty one, my question in this forum is: where I can go best for a decent priced rear muffler set for the 3200GTA ?

Many thanks,

I had standard front and Larini back boxes on mine, just right balance between noise, and no drone in my opinion.

I would move country.
Didn't somebody on here remove the rear boxes and cut them open, remove all the innards, join the exit and entrance pipes and weld the top back on?
Created a sort of straight through with a completely useless back box - but who would know?

Moving country just for getting more roar from the maser seems a bit over the top. Cutting all the stuff out from the original rear box also (can never be put back again). Maybe anyone has or knows someone that has Larini's or Tubi for sale for my 3200 GTA ?

Thanks

Did you not see the responses above? If you want the best sound then remove the rear boxes and have straight through pipes fitted.
