I'm in NSW, tappets. Soon I will be doing some 'catch-up' work on my recently purchased 3200 GT. It can't be too difficult to overhaul the waterpump, surely, so I am going to give it a go.
Remember the pump is run by the timing belt... if the bearing seizes then you could have a much bigger problem. It's a strange piece of design engineering. Make sure you get the right bearing and gasket. I didn't dare risk a refurb myself.
Maybe some of the experts on here could advise you better? How many miles has it done? Is it making a noise? How are the temps doing? Did you use Paraflu additive? Have you flushed the system? Do you have any Paraflu - can you get it?
If you need an exchange unit, Lozzer's thread is still good.
Check whether you have to get the pump off first, if its an exchange. Like an idiot, I just ordered an exchange from Stu without checking - duh! I have been hunting one down for ages. New from the US is £1000 plus. For me, it was simply just going to be a future 'bucket' job - to be done when I changed the belt at 70000 mls. Now I am committed - and the padded cell awaits!
Meantime, have you got an engine maintenance manual? Are you sure you know what you are doing - 'cause I sure as **** don't!
Would be great if someone put up a how to..?
