4.7 GT or DB9

Becoming close to a situation where I'll be upgrading and I've narrowed it down to the below, I welcome opinions :)

2009-2010 4.7 GT
OR
2007-2009 6.0 DB9?

I love the styling of both cars but those V12s are something else, there again the 4.7 V8 offers exotic notes which I love.

Don't know about GT as I have a GS, but the DB9s are nice. But full auto are they not? Also, all aluminium so if you see any paint bubbles, I don't think it's something you can cure. Back seats are useless but interiors are special. Boot is tiny. Millage important, don't you have to change the coils at 60k ish? And there are 12 of them.

The shorter Vantages are far prettier and more balanced in my opinion. Can't you get a V12 Vantage for 2010 DB9 money?

Wish I had your problem. Good luck.

Good tip on the paint, well the sport tronic enables manual paddle shifting so that is good. I do like the vantage but I love a long wheel base coupe, I would be looking at models around 25-35k miles too which I suspect will help a lot on the pocket. As said though the GTs are special too and I guess I'm starting to consider spec options on both models, primarily for resale purposes.

PS: V12 vantage are silly money, they're smack bang in young 430 and 458 backyards.

DB9 feels front heavy plus handles like an old car. Front end chunters when on any kind of lock, steering rack issues still evident upto 2013 model.
push it and expect 12 mpg, noise ok but not sexy.
radio gremlins kills rest of electronics plus gearbox old school auto slush box with more abrupt changes plus in sport mode will loosen your fillings unless you let the tyres down 2 lb .......apart from that....quite a nice car

Quite a précis. So what you are saying is that everything that matters in a car is cr4p but all the stuff that doesn't is ok. I'm surprised, it's better than I thought! ;)

I'm not sure you'll get a balanced, un-biased response on this forum?!

Both very nice and exclusive but whilst I am bound to be biased, I just think the GTS is prettier

I was fortunate enough to own an '04 DB9 back in 2008 (long story short, a client needed the money when the recession kicked in and I bought it off him for 6 months whilst he got his ship in order and then bought it back from me). Nice enough car with bragging rights but uneventful and I can honestly say that I wouldn't want another. Perhaps the later revisions made significant improvements?

Not saying that the 4.7 GT is much better. Another client recently bought a GranCab (brand new) and after 6 months chopped it in for an M6. He loved the noise and believes it's the best looking car on the road but as a sports car, it was lacking. Mind you, he'd come out of a 911 Turbo and I can see his point. Maybe a Stad is the way to go!

Yep the world is full of people who chop cars in they should not have bought. We have all done it but anything weighing 1900-2000kg is only going to like being driven quickly up to a point.

I had a DB9 for a few days. You know they say never meet your hero? Was a very disappointing experience. Went well enough but interior build quality wasn't the best, the rear seats are a non event and the handling was awful. Understeer on a whole new level. That big heavy V12 slung out front meant the front just didn't want to turn in. You had to revert to slow in, fast out. Sound was so so. Best thing about the car was when you got out, started to walk away and looked back. Oh my, it was a fantastic looking vehicle.

Having said that, good looking as the DB9 is I think the GT looks better, especially with the body slimming lack sill option. The GT also sounds sublime, is as quick as the Aston, handles much much better, has a nicer interior, has rear seats you can actually use and is just an overall better car.

No bias here, if I had preferred the DB9 then I'd have one instead of the GT.

I'd like to try the Vantage, a much better car than the DB9 by all reports. And better looking.

I've had a DB9 and sold a couple, and would echo everyone's sentiments on here. GTS is way better, on all levels.

Still think the V8 Vantage is one of the prettiest shapes on the road even after all these years.

Always loved the DB9, and then I drove one.

I expected it to be as great as Clarkson said it was. Sadly, it's was good, but just missed something.
And for a lump like me, not much room in it at all.

Got in a GT and it was like putting on an old pair of slippers. Fitted perfectly.
Oh, and the noise. Has anyone mentioned the noise the 4.7 GT makes?

I had a similar experience with the DB9. A mate had one on loan - I really wanted to like it, it looked great then (when they were first out, now looks dated to me). It was surprisingly small inside, no rear leg room at all. The dashboard and interior switchgear etc. looked cheap. It went OK, but my 3200 at the time was a quicker car - we had a hoon together and I was really surprised as I was expecting the DB9 to be a faster car.

Found my 1st 4200 faster than my pals V8 Vantage when we went to Le Toquet some years ago...and it cost 1/3 of the price... in fact I could have had my 4200, a 3200 and a Spyder for what it cost them.

I had a Merc 350 AMG Sport Diesel on loan last year, blew a V8 vantage into the weeds from 70 upwards. (On a private runway of course).
The Vantage owner was fuming that a soot chucker was quicker than his Aston!

Although to be fair it does have only a handful less torque than an SLS!

haha thanks for all the comments guys, I tried to find some db9 exhaust clips worth watching but nada.

I feel the GTS is my baby to be, hence my Mazdarati as of recent which is doing a great job at chipping back on the pennies.

@Mark, of course man not sure what Ill end up with but a run out will be in order.
