4200 cel

Hi guys, looking for maybe some pointers on a problem

When I collected the car last month it had a newly fitted Autoshield straight through on the rear.
Long story short is the light clears with a battery reset or an OBD hook up and remains off for between 5 and 200 miles and then comes back on.

Marios tested and said he couldnt find any errors when he plugged in his equipment but last week a kind 3200 owner plugged in his OBD and P0421 and P0431 showed up which would seem to suggest cat or emission issues?
Seems strange it takes so long for light to return?

Car runs fine so at the moment choices are ignore the light or stick a piece of black tape over it so I don't see it !! Exhaust is staying on!!!

Cheers.

Hope your not putting super market fuel in the tank.
Could be as simple as that.
Put some decent fuel in do a batt reset and take her for a thrash in Sports mode.

Thinking about this one again now waking up do you have a friendly Mot tester who could do a basic emissions test on your car as that could pin point the issue if the readings are out.
If you were in Somerset I would do it for you.

taking on phil's idea, there is a good mot shop in alness stewart, helped me out alot when I had emission issues with the alfa a few years back when I was based in alness.
re fuel. I always thought they were the same but as I said at the meet, I had a cel early doors for a couple of weeks and changed over to branded premium and no more cel..........may be coincidence but not switching back just to get tesco points just in case!

Having been in the game for a long time guys FUEL is not all the same.
The first question I ask a customer is where do they buy their fuel from.
Im no scientist but its not the crude oil that's expensive its the additives that cost money and they are what protect your engine and give performance.
Also servicing and repairing cars as I do you can tell from the state of the fuel filter tells me who uses supermarket fuel and who's on the good stuff.
All for the cost of penny's a no brainer really.
Phil.

Hmmm......could be fuel then?
I was told that it didn't make any difference whether I used the super unleaded or the basic stuff.
So is perceived wisdom super unleaded from BP or whoever rather than Tesco?
Re emissions. Yes I have a "friendly" tester that could check that no problem. He helps out in lots of ways and suffers from deafness when it comes to testing old Italian bikes!!! ;-)
Last fill was last Sunday at the BP stop at Perth but it was normal unleaded rather than super. Oddly enough I did about 170 miles that time before it came on whereas before it was about 20 -50.
Appreciate the offer Phil. Sadly I probably couldn't be further from Somerset if I tried!!
Other thing is although I use sport mode I am pretty gentle with her. Quite happy bumbling along admiring the view from behind the wheel and listening to the exhaust.
After a months ownership I still don't know how to turn on the radio!! Sound from the back is better than anything radio 2 has to offer!!

as you know stewart we are not spoilt for choice with supermarket alternatives up here (inverness seems to have shares in tesco!) but I tend to use, as per advice for 3200 engine but guess the same for your 4200, either the esso or BP premium from the stations just as you enter inverness from the bridge...........
as a side Q, I fancied a run to skye one weekend but not sure premium available on the isle and pretty sure a tank from inverness will not get there and back.......do you know if premium on the isle?

Sorry Greg, I don't.
Only been a couple of times and that was on old bikes that would run probably on chip fat so couldnt say. Maybe just call them and ask?
You are going to struggle to get there and back on a tank as probably 300 miles without any scenic trips.
