There is a bit....but if more careful with gears and revs.....mostly not a problem, always a bit of a trade off!

Very true! May go for the MIJ ones as the exhaust will likely have to come off once its sold/if I get annoyed with the drone!

A point to consider...they weld the final section in place...or so I was told, you need to check in case you're thinking of changing back to standard boxes.

Plus....as per my 1st post the Autoshield version, better design/finish and thicker grade SS...makes all the difference!!!

After witnessing much debate and watching and listening to endless vids of how the changes sounded and considered the daily usage of a much louder exhaust system in a 4200, I decided to plump for the MIJ of Walsall option - competitively priced straight through pipes.

I had in the interim, and in anticipation, already changed over the centre silencer section for a H pipe bought off a member of this forum, this seemed to make a little difference in both sound and "responsiveness". The H pipe was quite a bit lighter than the part removed.

Whilst at Autoshield and speaking to Marios he suggested another option from a company he used.

Granted it was more expensive but I felt on the balance having an item made from thicker gauge SS, plus a more Maserati-like design and finish plus being clamped in place for ease of changing would suit both the car and my self much better.

So having it ordered on the Thursday it would be ready for fitting the following Wednesday. It took a bit longer to do due to the lack of space to get at the fittings tight to the back bumper plus many of the screws had either rusted through or failed.

Also the two sets of pipes were also quite a bit lighter than the standard silencers, am sure for both, plus the centre section, saving 15Kgs in weight alone!

The following pics show the exhausts supplied and fitted.

If you are pleased with sound i'm happy for you. But remember i'm sure you have lost some low end torque (below 2k rpm) due to too low back pressure. You can gain hp in full range rpm mainly from front end modifications, such as better flowing Cats and X-pipe without silencer. A general tuning rule for the Back boxes are at least x10 cylinder displacement, here approx 2x20 litre. I have done 13.04s@1/4 mile with original exhaust with my spyder -2002 and can't find any quicker one on dragtimes.com. I have a ECU tuning chip + 31 hp from T.M chiptuning and a home made high flow air intake filter. Next season i'm aiming for mid 12's with FD DBWEM and X-pipe from Supersprint, but i'm going to leave the back boxes original. Some dynos found can confirm this, but often there are no curves presented below 2k rpm from the exhaust manufacturers, revealing this matter. Further on I'm planning to change cats to single 100-200 cells (weld in) to each cylinder bank. I'm not happy with the bolt on prices from Larini or others.

Frank, how does the new exhaust sound on the overrun? That was always my favourite thing about my Larini system. Ironically I found myself looking for reasons to lift off, just to be able to hear that sound. Naturally though to get to the point of lifting off I was forced to prod hard with my right foot first...

Ditto the above.

Had my new Larini's fitted very recently and the main thing I like is that I can now hear the overrun.

Look forward to hearing your new sound system, Frank
