Hi all,
I recently purchased a 2004 4200 GT (manual) and it has the screen and Nit module but not the auditorium amp or cd changer.
The radio seems to work when it feels like it and then nothing other times.
I’ve read a few threads to try and resolve the problem but couldn’t quite get enough information from what I’ve read to figure out a few things.
Do all the speakers turn off if one is faulty or just the one that is faulty?
Sometimes when it’s not working I hear a bit of noise from the right font tweeter.
When it is working at least one rear speaker sounds very scratchy so I suspect the foam has rotted on that one.
I got into the hidden memory and did the diagnostic as per the attached picture and it shows some form of fault code in red for the right front speaker so suspect that might have something to do with the loss of sound on all speakers?
I also read about the system being fussy with speaker impedance but I couldn’t find the figures if I replace them with equivalent impedance if someone knows what that should be?
I don’t really want to upgrade the system as such but it seems better speakers would be a must at this stage!
I’ve had good success with Bluetooth adapters in a previous Alfa Romeo into the cd changer port so I am considering that if I can get reliable sound out of the current nit system.
Any help would be appreciated.

I recall they all turn off if one is short circuited. Open circuit should be fine

I'd get into the door and check that for worn / chafed wiring and shorting.

I doubt it's that fussy but should be written on them when you get to it.

I think depth is the biggest issue. There are lots of posts on people that have done replacements. Certainly I can't see the originals will be at their (very limited) best

Here you are:

Loudlink has been widely recommended. I've also installed Parrot systems in mine and several other members' cars. There's a couple of threads somewhere.

Thanks for the reply sounds promising I might get the sound back!
Your Parrot interface is probably out dated now as that post is about 10 years ago!
I think I’ll search for a usb and or Bluetooth interface just for music playback at this stage but open to suggestions.

Ok thanks I’ll look into that option along with loud link.
Great to have this knowledge on the group. I’m mostly familiar with the Biturbo cars and a bit of 3200 so 4200 is a new venture for me.
I hung out for a manual car so had to settle with one that is pretty good but has a few bugs! Some I knew about others like this audio problem were not completely apparent!

Ive you decide to go the Parrot mki9200 route then drop me a PM. I have one sat on my spares shelf that i fitted in my 4200. Complete with box and instructions.

You can stream spotify and the like using either the bluetooth or audio cable options as well as streaming any music you have on your actual phone or memory card.

Pretty much anything your phone can send to blue tooth you can connect with via the parrot including sat nav.

Hi, how do you enter the diag-section of the radio?
This is from another post about language etc but once you get the service menu (another box appears on the lower right of the display screen with “Service” on it)
Then you can select a few options like gps aerial etc and you can diagnose the radio and speakers as per my screen shot.

The procedure must be completed without delay between the individual stages, sequence of button pressing should take no longer than 10 seconds. If 'Service' menu is not displayed turn off the system and repeat the procedure (faster). If the information system is not equipped with the telephone function the 'Voice Recognition Language' will not be displayed in the menu.

a...ignition turned off

b...press left round button to turn system on

c...wait for initial Maserati logo to turn off

d...immediately press 'Main'

e...press 'Enter'(right hand knob)

f...press and hold "Audio off" for 5 seconds

g...press '1'

h...press '2'

i...press '3'

j...press 'Enter'(right hand knob)

k...turn right knob until 'Service' is highlighted

l...press 'Enter'(right hand knob)

m... select 'Voice Recognition Language' from the menu by turning the right knob and pressing enter

n... select 'English'

o...press 'Enter', and follow the on screen prompts waiting for the procedure to finish

I found the fault and now have full sound.
Someone had upgraded to a set of two way Alpine Speakers and the terminals were just touching the metal skin. So I’m pleased it was easy to fix and also having upgraded speakers was a bonus.

Just to make it clear for those interested here is the amended process to look at speaker faults….

a...ignition turned off

b...press left round button to turn system on

c...wait for initial Maserati logo to turn off

d...immediately press 'Main'

e...press 'Enter'(right hand knob)

f...press and hold "Audio off" for 5 seconds

g...press '1'

h...press '2'

i...press '3'

j...press 'Enter'(right hand knob)

k...turn right knob until 'Service' is highlighted

l...press 'Enter'to access the hidden menus (right hand knob)..

Speaker diagnostic:
- Diagnostics
- Can Diagnostics
- DTC
