4200 info system won't turn off!

Hi, can anyone help me please?
Only had the car one day and despite loving everything about it ( bar the info system ) I'm at my wits end.
Even taking the key out and alarming the car doesn't switch it off. At the moment I'm having to disconnect the battery every time I stop!
Each start up and the message "voice recognizer language change in progress" and remains for about 10 minutes, followed by "warning, unable to change language". Everything is frozen out, so can't change the radio station or see air con controls, or turn the unit off.
I've tried disconnecting the battery for 30 mins, quite a few times now, but the same thing occurs at the next start up. I tried a language reset sequence I found searching on here, but again, nothing happens.
Anyone any tips, before I have to take the car back to the dealer?

I feel your pain !!!!!! Mine is out of control too, tried lots off things but still has got a mind of its own. Will be interested to find out what's wrong with yours but I fear a new unit is needed.

That's a puzzler..!! Take it you have tried switching the unit off with the standard switch and that does not work..!! It's not asking for a code so it's not that, have you tried putting the code in..??

No buttons work, none at all! I haven't tried the code yet as no response from any of the buttons. Just before it freezes after starting the engine there are 4 loud beeps...don't know if that's connected, or something else? Also can hear the cd spinning whilst it says it's trying to change the language....
Bloody annoying and spoiling my enjoyment of an otherwise great car :frusty5:

The CD in the arm rest may be the issue.

It sounds like somone has got into the software set up and it is trying to read the CD in the NIT as the software one and not finding the codes.

try ejecting this diak buy holding the eject button when you first switch the unit back kn after a battery reset.

Thanks for the replies. I've ejected the disc, and disconnected the battery overnight. I'll see what happens when I start her in the morning

If your referring to the 4200 I have a Nit and a Nav screen for sale if anyone needs one or the other. Both are tested.

Quick update.
Started her this morning, all fine, radio on, everything working. 10 mins into the journey the message "unable to change voice recognizer language, insert nav disc to continue"
Nothing working so inserted nav disc, and now back to square one!
Lorenz-gs, how much is the nit? And will it work on UK car (I see you are in Usa). I fly to Tampa and Orlando a fair bit so could collect and save a huge postage fee?

If all is working OK for a while, it sounds like the NIT is OK, it sounds like maybe a faulty disk which is not uncommon and not capable of entering a correct language. Just do without the disk for the time being and see if you can use the NIT as normal..??

Wraggy, im about 50 minutes from tampa. I don't see why it wouldn't work in the uk cars. Price is 350usd. IF you want it id drive it up to you depending on your next trip here. Ill be traveling sometime next month

Hard to tell and once you go inside these units you open up a can of worms. This is one reason I have 2 spares. One im keeping and one for sale

If you feel like a drive over to Guildford I can run the NIT software disc through your system. However, I am more concerned that you actually need the Vocal Language CD which is a separate cd to the NIT operating cd which I have.
That said, I'm sure putting the operating disc in will probably reset everything anyway and install sat nat and phone if you don't already have it!

Thanks all for the replies, and thanks for the offer David.
I don't know how, but it mystically has fixed itself. No warning messages now, and all working ok. I've left it in the work car park whilst away for a few days, so I'm just hoping it's still fine when I return tomorrow.
I did run a cd cleaner disc through the system and clean the navteq cd too, so maybe that???
Fingers crossed for tomorrow when I start her up again.....
