Eurospares have confirmed that Skyhook shocks are NLA and even non-Skyhook rear shocks are NLA.
So absent any new OEM options, where does that leave us?
Rebuilding a Skyhook can be done by Orap in Italy (ca. €350 per shock), Nagengast in Poland have the technology but only list the QP on their website, and the mythical rebuilders in the UK do not exist (David Askew only ever rebuilt the 3200 Bilstein shocks and not the 4200 Sachs units) and Performance Car Parts stopped years ago. There is supposedly a rebuilder in NZ but I doubt that would be any cheaper than Orap even if they could be tracked down.
So what aftermarket options are there? Coilovers exist as follows:
KW V3 at ca. £3,000-3,500 all round - reputable name but sadly much more expensive than V3s for other cars. @A.S. Motorsport used to carry these but not sure if they still do or whether cheaper for the UK once shipping and duty added.
Formula Dynamics are even more expensive for what some believe to be a re-branded KW shock.
Gecko Racing say on Facebook that they have a 4200 shock for sale but I can't find it on their website, and Banshee Motorsport in the UK carry Gecko QP units but do not advertise the 4200.
Ceika offer 4200 units in the US for ca. $1,200 and @420coupe was running these but I can find no UK supplier.
Toole Automotive offer DGR for £1,100 and SF Racing for £1,000 but there is no feedback from anyone running either. Toole tthemselves say to choose SF Racing but don't say why.
Suppliers of KW, and Formula Dynamics, offer Skyhook error cancellation units at ca. £350 to $600. It is not clear if there is a cheaper solution than this.
Any thoughts, comments or advice?
I am prepared to ditch Skyhook given the cost of rebuilding and the concern that rebuilt units could fail.
I would like a firmer ride and happy to go for a GS-style set up. I am not interested in.lowering my facelift 4200 for aesthetic reasons, but I am prepared to follow the GS route if that improves handling.
