4200 sport button not working

My sport button stopped working, so I removed the oval reverse lever panel and gave the cable a wiggle. That worked for a while. Tonight I took the panel off again, and when I squeezed the cable against the switch, sport mode could be switched on and off for a while but I can’t get it to work at all now
Interestingly, when I turn the ignition key to the first position, the orange light in the switch glows very faintly. What does this mean?
Is there a cure for this issue, my OBD reader doesn’t indicate a fault.

On my 4200, when sport is engaged, the switch has a little orange light which glows. The car always remembers on ignition switch on whether sport was engaged or not, so you don't have to turn sport on everytime you jump into the car.

Pretty certain that this isnt a universally transferable skill..
It all depends how the car was programmed at the factory IIRC. It's just as likely to return to a default "Off" position when the ignition is cycled.
As to the OP's problem- no idea. It takes SD2/3 to read/write this function. Get it to a garage....

Stop messing with the switch/panel!!!!

Is your car manual or CC?

For all you know it is a duff suspension ECU, skyhook sensor or your dash ECU has re-set and turned off the Sports option and you could easily break to switch panel by by tampering with it too much - I know this because that is exactly what happened to my car 6+ years ago and I was left with a mess to sort out by the previous owner

Standard ODBII reader is useless in this situation. You need to get the car on a SD2/3 reader at a specialists who knows what they are doing. The SD2/3 will be able to see the switch panel opening/closing therefore they can tell you if it's working or not (rather than you squeezing wires). The reader can communicate with the suspension ECU and sensors on each corner also to tell you where the problem is coming from

There is a setting on the dash ECU that needs to be checked, I believe a flat battery can cause these settings to go haywire which is likely what took out the sports mode on my car - although i also had a broken switch panel where it was messed with by the previous owner.
