Advice needed on replacing my GS stereo and speakers

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well!? It’s been quite a while since I was on here, and apologies if there’s an obvious thread already on this - I have tried to do a search, but couldn’t find much.

The front speakers on my Gransport are close to dead, and the rear speakers are not much better… As such, I’m thinking about getting them replaced before I take the car to Lemans in June. I also quite like the idea of swapping out the Becker head unit for something more modern that will give me the ability to run Waze, Spotify, etc… but am worried about how that would look.

Does anyone have any advice, tips, suggestions for people to speak to?

Pics included just because….

Not sure where you are based but I use Audiofile InCar in Hertfordshire.
The issue you’ll have is fitting a floating screen where the single DIN Becker sits.. it will obscure a few of the controls..
There are some excellent Pioneer or Alpine floating screen options - 7, 9 or 11 inch.
Audiofile Incar are fitting the Alpine Ilx-905D to my 360 next week as I’m sick of sucker cup phone holders falling off, air vent holders breaking the internal vents, plus Apple CarPlay is a great solution and works extremely well in my GT.
Pics for reference (not my car)

I've gone for Focal speakers as per the thread linked above and a Pioneer SPH-20DAB radio (single din) that allows you to use your phone as a screen in a way.
Not installed yet so can't share any experience I'm afraid...

That is the exact set up i installed. I will try and grab some pictures tomorrow and post them up.

There are pros and cons to the Pioneer Sph20-dab unit. Overall its a good unit. Just a few quirks that could have been done better.

Will post the pictures and then give you a list of the pros and cons imho.

If the unit failed i would fit it again though so its mostly positives.

Thanks…

A friends with a 911 has recommended this 7” Kenwood screen as a good option…

There are literally loads of options.
I realise that a 9 inch screen wasn’t what Ferrari envisaged for their 360.. but, I’ve owned mine for now 22 years and feel I’m entitled to do what i want…..

Also used Audiofile in car successfully in my jag and a Range Rover prior to that.

As for the GS, I can see a lot of work needed to get anything resembling good sound.

Yeah - I’m not really looking to turn my car into a sound stage fit for an audiophile, but would like to be able to play music at volume without distortion (which I think is just about replacing the buggered speakers)

I’m not entirely sure what I think about the idea of a big screen in the Gransport, and am wondering where they would fit it… does it have to go where the stereo is currently?

You’ll achieve that with an upgrade to the Focals,
they make a huge difference. That said, you’ll probably notice a lot of rattles, resonance and booming if you push the volume up unless you do a lot of work with sound deadening etc. Even without that extra work, the upgrade is still well worth it.

Dont do it…! :D Not strictly necessary given what you want is better sound.
Surely there’s nothing to stop you integrating more amp power, updating the head unit if you so wished, and even using a (powered) sub somewhere…?
More easily achieved than a 4200 I suspect. A screen will look pants, and get in the way of the car’s controls…

Similar to this, and it disappears at the touch of a button if you do need to change heating settings.

This is what I have in my Gransport, it works really well. When you need to adjust the heating controls just touch a button, the screen folds in but music, satnav, phone still work with screen folded, once you have finished touch the button and out it pops. I think there is a YouTube clip about it. Recommend it.
