If you have no fuel and spark it must be something central denying permission to start.

Could possibly be oil pressure switch, maybe only allowed to start once oil pressure is seen on the starter motor? Unlikely but it is Italian!

Have you got the 33 workshop manual?
Wiring plan for the electronics

Think your getting too complicated with it. From what I've gathered messing with mine they are pretty basic engines.
How do you know you are getting no spark?
Reason is when testing mine the spark can hardly be seen but the engine runs fine, I even changed the coil and still the same. The starter motor turns thus turning the rotor arm. If there is no power going into the coil 2 cables go to dash display assuming the ignition barrel and the other to the ecu. The injector cables on the other hand, 1 wire goes to the ecu and the other a relay. There is a water temp sensor on the passenger throttle body which controls the fuel aswell, blue connector. Have you tried disconnecting the idle control valve electrical connector?

Stick your little finger in the plug cap and crank it over. You will soon know for sure if you are getting a spark.

Oh, you know, I have my mirrored glasses on so not to get caught out :)

Went to the gym for the second time, it was easier today as I hadn't had any gin beforehand.

More problems :(

Although the engine has been running fine it has been really smoky which I wasn't unduly concerned about initially as its common for oil to collect in the bottom of the bores and to burn off on start up. Being a boxer engine some oil tends to sit there rather than flow back into the sump under gravity as it would do in a conventional inline or V engine. Unfortunately it seemed that the smoke wasn't clearing and after 45 minutes of running it was still belching out blue smoke and I began to think I had a serious problem meaning the engine would have to come out yet again. Just as I was beginning to start crying the smoke began to clear so all seems ok now other than an overfuelling issue low down in the rev range. The car has finally moved under its own power today for the first time in 8 years and has had 4 wheel alignment carried out. The overfuelling has mostly been sorted by a few adjustments to the MAF but the emissions are still not quite good enough to pass the MOT and there is still some hesitancy low down in the rev range. The car has had a short road test but these issues may well resolve themselves after a longer road test which may blow away a few cobwebs, spark plugs will be checked to see if they have been fouled by the overfuelling issue. Extended road test and possibly MOT tomorrow....

Just keep ticking the list item off and the list will keep getting smaller!

Hang in there.
