I have always been a fan of the 116 Giulietta, mainly because when I was younger the insurance companies refused to insure me in one. A few years ago I bought a 1986 1.8RS (below) which I love and swore I would never sell.

There are only 2 Giuliettas I would rather own, one is the super rare Turbodelta version and the other is a tweaked black 2.0 owned by a friend which I never thought would become available.

But times change and last week I was informed the black one was for sale, so a quick trip down the road to have a look and a discussion and now it seems I own this beauty

1982 Alfa Romeo Giulietta 116 (42k miles from new)

It's a December '82 standard 2.0 litre apart from fast road C&B cams and now runs Dellorto's. K&N panel filter and standard pattern exhaust in s/s but a bigger bore. I guess it gives around 145 brake and similar torque. At only 1100kgs its no slouch. Suspension upgrades include GTV6 torsion bars with adjustable Koni's and poly bushes and Harvey Bailey arb up front. Rear runs Koni's Eibach springs and again poly bushed. Brakes are drilled & grooved vented from a 75 late model TS along with the alloy calipers and fast road Pagid pads. Stainless hoses and DOT 5.1 fluid. Rear are standard but with Pagid fast road pads and stainless hoses. Transmission is a rebuilt late model 75 TS transaxle (with the closer ratio's and LSD) gear linkage is also late 75 TS and the speedo drive modded to suit. Clutch is new also.

Bodywork is rust free and no filler whatsoever having been Zeibarted from new. Despite that it has had a back to metal repaint to give it the deep gloss finish. The interior has leather trimmed Recaro front seats and the rears have been retrimmed to match.

This does mean that I will have to move on the silver one to make room, fortunately I know someone who is desperate to take if off my hands.

The silver one is lovely, but the black one is a peach! Congratulations on the new purchase. Always liked these since seeing a new one owned by a colleague of my father in the early 80s - he only bought it because his daughter was called Juliette!!

Absolutely beautiful.

I'd certainly be interested in the grey one if the sale falls through. (What am I saying! Where would I put it!)

Photos of the silver one which I am selling - well I think I am but after washing it and seeing how good it is I might be having second thoughts

I don't think either the 75 or the 116 are ugly. I think the 116 is the nicer looking. It was *well* ahead of its time in terms of looks on the road :)

The Giulietta is light and nimble in a way the 75 can never be. When you see them side by side it is surprising how small the Giulietta actually is.
