Have spoken to my friendly main dealer who said they have only replaced the pump on rare occasions. It was thought the failures were due to water INGRESS [car flooded, possibly]. They claim there is no service bulletin from Maserati on the subject of premature failure. At least the engine does not need to be removed to replace the defective item.
However I'm pleased Miles has raised this issue even though it's shaken my faith - again!

Hi John,

Do I guess that your friendly MD is GP Nottingham?

Did they mention which models and when?
Water ingress is interesting, as the pump is about as close to the road as the engine gets.
Don't know about NOT needing to remove the engine though? I'd appreciate some clarification on that one if you have it?

Regards, Em.

Not the same low point issue thats known about with the hydrolocked cars?

P

No catastrophic failure P, but could be the same cause of water up through the drain hole to then settle in the bearing assembly?

Could well be Miles......maybe probe further with Geoff and see what the owner says his habits were etc......or events even...but a small aperture shouldn't allow that much water in at a time......but who knows
