Alloy refurb - £50 a corner? Herts/Surrey/Hampshire/Sussex?

Hi

I had expected to pay £50 a corner for alloy wheel refurbishment, but I've not been able to find anything.

Can anyone recommend anyone?

I'd like a powder coated bright sparkle finish. I'd preferably like it to be a drive in/drive out service - or is that unrealistic?

Thanks
R

Usually they will keep the car overnight for powder coats, so may charge a storage fee on top of the per-wheel fee. Also may charge for removal/re-fitting of the tyres. So £50 for the refurb can probable be found, but hunt for bargains in the extras!

I use a chap who visits your home. He negotiates on price, but could be persuaded to do the work for around £50 if doing all four wheels.

As he's a visiting service, he does not have the equipment to bake/dry the paint. However, having used this person for over two years, I have never had a problem with the longevity/durability of the paint finish (I have my car washed every 2-3 weeks). The quality of his workmanship is very good indeed.

If interested, I can let you have his details.

Out of interest, do you have any pics of the 'powder coated sparkling finish'? Not familiar with that.... thanks.

You are right - he does not powder coat, so may be not right for you....

Thanks for the pics - useful. I have been thinking seriously about mercury or darker chrome for my next re-paint to match the QP Sport GTS look...

I too have always gone for Paint over Powder and my chap NIN from Siddlesham bodyshop does mine at £50 each or £45 each based on all 4.

01243 641844 - mention 'Maserati Matt' and he will look after you. You will need to leave the car with him but his quality is excellent.

I would say Powder is more durable but its also flatter with less sparkle from my experiences.

Also, when powder rims are curbed, you split the plastic like coating and it wounds upwards and splits so is not easy to touch in.

I have had my wheels done both by a travelling guy in a van and also by a local powder paint place, and i think the powder finish is much tougher than the the paint finish, which got trashed very quickly. I think finish is similar and both looked good once done. i paid £50 a corner for both jobs, although i took the wheels to the powder pain place and i paid for tyre removal and refit so the powder finish cost more in total. ( i was changing tyres at the time so made sense)

Gloss black is very difficult to keep clean especially with the 15-spoke monsters on the 4200 (fiddling between the spokes with a brush and shampoo is bad enough, I couldn't imagine doing it again with a drying cloth then with wax to get the finish I know you would insist on : ), but I'm sure with your dedication and fewer spokes it would be great on your lovely shiny car Andy! When they are clean, they look amazing...especially in sunlight when they are moving and reflecting the sun...but...

I wouldn't do it again, they always end up matt black after a couple of days, so I'll go for a more matt surface next time.

Wasn't that to include bumper, a set of carbon breaks and wheel etc...Plus its a Stradale....Very expensive car to run and mend.

Dem - that's hilarious.

An alloy wheel is an alloy wheel, be it on a Ferrari or Fiesta.

(But agree that a set f carbon brakes might be a tad expensive!)

I had a mobile guy come over and do 8 wheels for which he spent the whole day and charged me £40 a wheel. Usually he's more like £50-£60 depending on number of wheels you have to do. Finish was fine to my eye. That's in SW London.

Think yourself lucky you don't have the split-rim Speedlines of a Cup. These are about £300 per wheel to refurb (as discovered by three of us this summer). But £50 per wheel for a standard wheel refurb sounds about right - maybe a bit more for powder coat.
