Considering that tge motorised manual transmission continued improving, i was wondering whether anyone managed to upgrade the duo-select of early QP V?
Worth considering the Formula Dynamics Drive by wire enhancement
Not a fan to be honest with anything that tricks the existing ECU to do something it was not designed for.
It does speed up changes, but changes at a lower threshold that are slower naturally. Changes that are faster naturally (full throttle, high rpm) are not made any faster.
So for me, why do you want faster changes when you are not under full throttle or high rpm anyway?
My opinion of course!
Because quicker changes = less clutch slippage = less clutch wear = longer life per clutch. At least that what I have been told. I was going to post on this to request views of those who have done the FD DBW conversion.
I have had the DBW unit on my QP for just over a year now, I can't say I really notice any huge difference to the gear changes but the most noticeable thing is the quickness in clutch engagement, the throttle response is so much quicker than standard. A lot quicker to get going off the line and using Auto mode is a lot more user friendly. it selects the correct gear a lot quicker rather than the delay normally experienced.
For me it was well worth the money and has transformed the car, mine was a second hand unit from eBay that needed sending back to FD for reprogramming and a new harness but worked out to about £500 all in.
Certainly is not... Sadly modding these cars isn't as cheap as the equivalent German vehicle.
They occasionally come up used for 300-400 bur you will need to send it back to FD for reprogramming and a new harness for a few hundred but it works out much cheaper with the hassle
