Anyone willing to teach How to Use a Rotary/DA Polisher?

Hi,

I've looked into paying a detailer to do my car, and every time I come close to doing it - I just think I'm paying someone an awful lot for elbow grease / and I don't mind on investing on the kit myself.

I've had a look at going to training classes and they don't seem all that inviting, nor do they seem that well priced.

So on that note...does any kind and able SM'er feel like being a DA/Rotary Polishing Guru and teaching? I know I'd be interested and i think a few others might be as well.

Just an idea...

Cheers

Defo be careful with any polishing/cutting devices and agents......

A good clean, claying and detarring.........regular waxing will achieve plenty

Frank and Andy - A lot can be achieved with a clay bar, polish and wax. Agreed. But, more can be achieved with a rotary or DA polisher. It's why they exist and one of the biggest changes you can make to your paintwork.

The reason for this thread is for the precise reason of not going out, buying the kit and "having a go". It's to learn how to do it. Then, if you feel comfortable, do it yourself.

Life would be more boring without learning and trying new things!

True....but........starting on a Supercar wouldn't be the ideal way of learning.......unless its laquer/paintwork **** to start with......and I suspect few are that bad at this point in time

I would not worry too much about using a DA, its important to use the most fine cutting agent first and if that does not work then step up the course level, that way you never risk going to much. A DA will rarely go through paint.

You would have to be a numpty to do much wrong with a DA really, unless your paint has been polished every month and very thin.

I now use a rotary as it offers much better finish but they are a little dangerous unless you know what your doing. Ive no problem bringing my old DA and showing what can be done but im up in Worcester, maybe next time we get together at an event I could bring the kit along and we can have a demo, Newton is also good with a polisher i believe.

I'd be up for that, Frank. I've bought a decent DA polisher but haven't had the time (or courage) to use it yet. Will start on my E30 first and move onto the GS once I have a decent technique. Happy to come 'up north' as well - would be a decent drive out!
