Hi Klive and thanks for your thoughts, It's the matt black (at least on mine) metal plate that sits above the door skin surrounded by the rubber gasket onto which the mirror 'hinge' is then screwed. Unfortunately this comes as part of the complete mirror. It's the driver's side.

Just read your post, mines the nearside. I got the replacement from Eurospares, it was the only nearside mirror they had at the time.
Good luck.

Miles what can i say that hasn't been said already ,i know and can sympathise the kind of feeling you have inside , takes me back a couple of years ago when my next door neighbour keyed the rear quarter of the 4200 when we had friends staying and i thought it petty to ask them to remove their car off the drive so i could park the 4200,so decided to leave it parked on the road right in front and blocking my drive ,we had had words weeks before with the assshole that rents the house next door, ended with him saying he get his own back , and sure enough he did , Basstard £550 for a complete respray of the roof and both rear quarters ,what a low life , my neighbour has said anymore trouble from him and he will not renew the tennancy , so he's been quiet since , but has just bought a 54 plate honda ,

The devil in me wants to get a pea shooter with paper pellets dipped in nitromors and splatter his new pride and joy late at night , god did i say and think that .............yep

Man that sucks, but remember you have a great car that is hardly damaged at all. OK it will take a bit of attention to fix, but it will be fixed. I suspect that one day the vandal will be seen doing the same again to another car and theres a reasonable chance that he/she may be damaged in a way that can't be so easily fixed. In fact of course that person is already damaged goods and will never have a great life... Take solace in that fact.

Cheers

Sadly no CCTV, though I may change that myself.

You're right Aeros, it could have been worse. Doesn't make me feel any better as it's the mindlessness of it that riles, but small mercies none the less I guess.

Loz, one or two a week could be entertaining for months, but a tip if I may? Number one - breath in. Number two - pea shooter to mouth. Not the other way around. :D

I had a few in the shop overlooking the dining area....im now using one to record the garage
Recommend you go B&Q and get cameras with HD recording onto hard drives they only £100 and can tape days worth onto memory card....they only record when they detect movement so you dont have to search hours for nothing....show the police the face and they will do the rest....

Loz, did you go to him after he did it?? Id be taking him to the bank to give me money.....

Trouble is Dem , proving it , all i know is that i left the car there around 10pm and saw the scratch instantly around 9.30 in the morning , it was a huge one about 3 foot long the full length of the rear quarter , the Police got their forensic guy out and he said it had been started from the rear of the car towards the front , which is exactly the way my next door neighbour comes from every morning at around 6.30 when he walks his dog , they also reckon it was either a key , or possiblythe chain of his dog lead , either way their was no way of proving it ,

After that i wasn't going to get it sorted straight away unless it happened again , left it about 6 months before i got round to doing it , but i would never leave either car out on the street all night again anywhere

And Miles good idea , one a month on a different panel sounds an excellent way to go

Sadly it was a work trip Dem, and as Mrs Tee needed the other car during the week I had to drive my injured car down to Heathrow and leave it parked up for the week. Just got back yesterday so will get on to removing and replacing the wing mirror this week. Only good thing is I got myself an iPad at the $ price, which saved me a bob or two to be used towards the cost of the mirror.

Hey Miles, I'm so sorry to hear you've had such a bad time. People like that are breathing oxygen with no honest reason for them to do so. A slow and painful death at the hands of some truly awful illness is the least we can wish for them. Hope you get your pride and joy back on track soon.

Some f*cking sh1t-bag of a tw@t-faced w@nker got p1ssed up last night 'cos he's a low life fookwit of a looser; walked past my car and thought it would be fun to slam his unemployed feckless fist down onto my wing mirror, breaking the metal backing plate and leaving it hanging from the side of my car. And this in the day before I'm away on business for a week and can't get it mended.

Prizes for anyone that can quote my exact words when I saw the car this morning.

If I find the **** I'm going to stab him in both eyes with a blunt screwdriver and then tie his shoe-laces together. I'll then post video on Youtube of the **** trying to get home. Oh and when he does get back to his ****-hole of a hovel, I'll torch it with him in it! (I'll save the Staffie 'cos they're lovely dogs that happen to be owned by tw@ts)

Here endeth the rant. (for now)

Yours, Disgusted of Loughborough.

I'd chop him up (well I'd get my wife to as I am squeamish) and feed him to my dog!
