Well after coming up to three years, the Gransport has gone and been replaced with a new toy. German this time but I'm sure I will be back in an Italian thoroughbred again. The Gransport has been a fantastic ownership experience, and this forum has certainly been a part of that. As have certain traders who have a real passion for the brand, not least Richard Grace and Autoshield, who play a huge part in keeping the brand alive (probably more than FCA!). I'm only sorry I didn't get to more events but it was good meeting some of you at Ace. I will certainly say "hello" if passing any forum stands at shows etc.

Thanks for the mention and good luck with the new acquisition, assuming it’s a Porsche....

Thanks Richard. Yes went with a 993 in the end. It’s a perfect size for my needs and means I tick the aircooled box.

I may be back for a Stradale at some point or a fezza (depending how my career goes!) or perhaps a new Maserati sports car if we ever see the likes again!

Love the 993. If you have any pictures would love to see her. Enjoy your new car.

You'll need to keep a beard and wear sandals with socks, now that you have joined the air-cooled illuminati. And dont even think of putting on more than 300 miles a year. Heaven forbid.

P.S. is it the blue one via Camerons by any chance?

(I am a Porsche afficianado as you can see from my signature)

Thanks, yes I certainly intend to enjoy her and am confident I won't be accepted by the air-cooled illuminati! She lives outside and as my only car will be doing 3-5k per annum. She's also had some mods by a previous owner to create a 'RS lite' with some choice Carrera S styling changes.

The last thing I wanted was something I was afraid to use. A new job comes with use of a space at the office underground car park and I'm looking forward to roaring in every morning. Although the Gransport would have been up to it, the car park entrance is quite narrow and it would have been a bit too tight for my liking. I was also ready to try something new if I'm honest - I'd had the Gransport longer than any other car.

The theory is that I will be able to run this for similar money if not less than something like a new Golf R when taking into account depreciation etc. but we'll see. For me a 993 is far more desirable option anyway and they don't look bad value to me (even if they are more than they used to be).

This is the listing from the place I bought it from (just down the road from me) and a pic of her on my drive (for those that are interested).

Very nice indeed. The 993 is the best looking 911 in my view, maybe because I was an impressionable youth at the time. Congrats.

Nice in Iris Blue. It is not the car I was thinking of. Enjoy this - getting on in age now but great cars and great fun. The sound of air-cooled is something else.

Same. I was 15-19 when these were on the road and still remember a silver one coming past the college one lunch time. Funny how these things stay with you.

My cousin worked (still does actually) at a Porsche dealer in Naples. So I would sit in one during the holidays. So that and the Lord Blue Integrale and the dealer down the road were the ones that stayed with me. Much like when a friend scared the **** out of me in a 3200 circa 2000 :D
