Best and Worst car stereo

The best I’ve had is the Bowers & Wilkins 20 speakers, 1200w from a 2011 XJL. Many a time I would sit in the car after I’d reached my destination and listen to the end of a track.

The worst, sorry, it’s the standard stereo in the Granturismo. Whoever was responsible should be ashamed of him/herself.

I had the same in the XJL I had too and did exactly the same. Also found I often drove past my home turning to carry on listening.

The E55K HK surround system is pretty good. The XJL pips it though. The iPace Meridian surround system is pretty good too.

The bose system in my Porsche cayenne was ok. The bang Olufsen in the q7 is good nothing special.
I second that the maserati granturismo is pitiful standard sound system. the maserati gotta be close 318i 1998 bmw we had in terms of how bad it was.

Naim in my old Bentley also I loved the Mark Levinson in my old Lexus. Back in the day Nakimichi was my favourite. Worst Maserati 4200 both the GT and the Cambi, probably the same unit.

Another one for the Lexus Mark Levinson. Considering it’s age (we have a rx400h, pretty old now) it’s ace. I’m sure there must be better ones by now though.

The Bose in the quattroporte is very average, the standard unit in a similar age guilietta is better..

When my cars were not so musical, negating the need for any sounds system, I used to spend fortunes on JL Audio component speakers and amplifiers creating an amazing system that no manufacturer gets close to. For OEM, the top of the range Range Rover L322 (Meridien HD1500?) was probably the best. B&O in the BMW M6 also not bad but really nothing compares to a custom fit with high quality components or, more importantly, Larinis on my GS, X-Pipe on my Strad or std exhausts on the QPV GTS. There's a radio cassette in the TVR but that is never turned on as it has nice straight through pipes!

And the other thing about the Jag is that even at very high motorway speeds you still get to enjoy it as the cars themselves are silky smooth and quiet.

I thought my B & O system was good in my Audi, but this Bowers & Wilkins in my Ghibli blows it away.
The worst was in my M3, shocking for a car at that level.

The 1979 PYE radio in my 400i is not good. Nor is the 1972 Binatone 8-track in the Aston.
So I'm currently having my old 1980's Blaupunkt Toronto radio-cassette repaired, but that's unlikely to be money well spent.

There's nothing special hi-fi wise in any of my cars. But the new Audi gets delivered on Dec 22nd, so I'm hoping that'll contain something decent (by virtue of being brand new and modern). Fingers crossed.

We had a mk 1 Ford escort which was Granny's old car. Mint - 12K in 12 years. No stereo, but a single hole in the rear parcel shelf for the mono if you had wanted one fitted!

Naim in 2012 Bentley GT. With double glazed windows and a quiet interior it was a phenomenal experience.

Best was Volvo in our XC60, I agree that the Maserati one was rubbish but that's what x-pipes are for. Any car is not really the ideal environment for true hi-fi sound so I don't mind as long as it's decent. Had Burmeister in the Macan, Harmon/Kardon in the M2, Bose in 911 but none where a comparison to a decent home set-up.

Comparing apples to apples
The basic factory setup in my 2003 Ford Fiesta is far superior to the rubbish in my 2003 Maserati. The infotainment system is convoluted c..p
