Best way from Newcastle to Glasgow

In 2 weeks time I will travel from Newcastle to Glasgow (in a 612 Scaglietti) and I am looking for the nicest/best/fastest way. Should I avoid the M74? I was thinking about taking the M68 through Northumberland National Park to Edinburgh and from there the M8 to Glasgow. This is 10 minutes slower than the M74 and perhaps nicer in terms of scenery? On which road do I have the best chance of avoiding speeding tickets?

Any tips / suggestions?

Thanks, Danny

Hi

Most scenic route in my opinion is to take the A68 to Edinburgh (some fantastic corners for your 612, up through Jedburgh then pick up the Edinburgh by pass and then the M8 to Glasgow.

Quickest is probably A69 over to Carlisle then M74 but its a bit dull.
Alternatively, the A1 up the coast through Berwick can be nice but pretty much all dual carriageway and lots of cameras.

So A68 for me.
Enjoy.

Be warned the A68 has cameras EVERYWHERE! it's a great road though.

Let me know when you are in Glasgow and we could meet for a coffee mate I'll give the AC a run out.

I would head up the A1 then head round the Edinburgh bypass and along the M8.

Happy to bow to your more recent knowledge re A68 Pibbow.

Used to travel that road almost daily but not for 4 or 5 years.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm afraid there is hardly time for a meeting as I have to hurry in order to pick up 2 friends from Glasgow airport. Reason why I asked for the speed cams. Anyone with experience whether UK speeding fines will be forwarded to Holland or vice versa (anyone ever received a Dutch speeding fine at their doormat in the UK)?
