at the risk of sounding dim, what other possible reason could there be to clock a car other than to mislead a buyer :banghead2:
Replacement speedo/instrument cluster would be one obvious one. Rare but it does happen, as I have experienced first hand with Maserati.

As Matt mentioned above, the GTS TCU records distance in a given gear. So yes, it can be figured out. Various VAG cars are the same.

My company car is a “Connected” BMW. I imagine BMW have a database of my journeys, speeds and all that malarkey. I haven’t had a tap on the shoulder, yet....
Isn’t this TCU measurement still a guess or best estimate? Harvey at AV seemed to suggest it was and calculation interpreted rather than definitive. Clearly the the bigger the discrepancy the clearer the case. Manual or auto won’t be detectable in the same way.

yes I'm fully aware of genuine speedo changes due to malfunctions and an honest dealer should and would disclose that, but were taking about obvious "illegal" clocking to deceive and simply increase the value of a car, it seems from the write up and reading between the lines that Ferrari are clocking cars, happy to be told otherwise

Maybe, let’s see what comes of the case. I would like to think it is isolated rather than systemic, but perhaps I am being naive? I knew someone some years ago who clocked his M3, personally i couldn’t see the point as it didn’t massively increase the value and he kept it for years. I honestly think it was so he felt better when he looked at the speedo.

I must say I don’t know. But I imagine if the odo is less than that reading it suggests and issue. Either way it is a reasonable guide.

One thing I have learnt since researching much about TVR's that it is a quite common fault on TVR's to have speedo/mileometer issues. Many have been stuck for years so never actually give a true indication of the cars true mileage.

I've heard of a few stories of older cars that only had 5 figure mileometers going round the clock more than once so making it hard to keep track of accurate mileage. Maybe they thought that these cars would last more than 100k!

ah the good old days with mechanical things instead of all this tech and xmas tree lights on the dash, I dread that sound when you hear a ping and the dash lights up, switch off ignition, key in and out hoping it will reset:banghead1:

My understanding of the Ferrari process is that the diagnostic requires a code from Ferrari in order to change the mileage and that the mileage is centrally recorded as a result. Presumably the data stored on the car can be overwritten from the diagnostic if one has access to the full OEM system.
