On a GWR train waiting to leave Paddington*, we are informed that there is a delay caused by 'crew displacement'.

Would anyone else like to take a swim in my think tank? I'm interested in other baffling expressions you all encounter as you go about your business.

*which is a train station in London, before you rural folk start grumbling

Seems a good shorthand way of saying that the train is in Paddington but the crew is stuck somewhere else.

This is still my favourite evasion:

TO OUR GOOD AND LOYAL SUBJECTS,

The war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan's advantage. After pondering the conditions obtaining in our empire today, we have decided to effect a settlement of the present situation. We have ordered our government to communicate to the governments of the United States, Great Britain, China and the Soviet Union that our empire accepts the provisions of their joint declaration.

I miss the Rant Thread....

I cannot understand the thinking behind this email marketing message.

Do Trainline really think I'm going to look at this email, and say to myself, "Yes, you know, I think I will take a train to London on February 13th, since it is such a bargain!"

There is so much "corporate-speak" that qualifies under this heading. My current favorite is when someone says, "I have a wondering..." which equates to, roughly, "You are a moron and your idea is terrible, and here's why..."

@DLax69 will doubtless be painfully familiar with the idea of 'deplaning', when one disembarks from aeroplanes* in America.

Although I have yet to improve upon the rantings of an American man complaining that a hotel was 'under-elevatorised.'

*yes, aeroplanes!

It's a railway station my good man! I used to work there and will not have it's proud moniker besmirched by such foul language! :p

I am becoming vaguely aware of the fact that Ricardo Montalban was apparently a formative figure in my life...

Lets have a thought shower is one I particularly dislike - it used to be a brain storm, but that's discriminatory.
