I'm trying to find the film/documentary of the Blackburn Buccaneer.
I remember seeing it on TV and can't find it.
A short clip of it is at the beginning of this video about the plane.
I just found it very British, and of course the music went perfectly with it.
Can anyone else remember it?
Thought it was called flight of the blackburn buccaneer or similar.
Sure it was around 93 when the plane went out of service.

I remember one crashing at RAF Leeming in the early 1990's possibly 92/93. Hydraulic failure, landed wheels up on the runway and the pilot legged it to safety. It was later towed off and scrapped after being cannibalised for spare parts.

Is it this one. The last British bomber. The music kicks in around 29.30 on the time stamp.

Thanks but no, same footage but different music.
It's thirty years ago, the first 30 seconds of my original post was it, but I just recall it being much more footage and everything I've found just appears to be a clip from the original!

Sorry I cant help with the video but I can tell you a little bit about its history. I was lucky enough to spend 31 years of my career working alongside design engineers who were working on all the Combat fast jet programmes coming out of BAESystems factories. The Blackburn Buccaneers were built at BAESystems Brough site near Hull (previously Blackburn Aircraft Ltd, which later became part of Hawker Sidley Aircraft Group, then British Aerospace and then BAESystems). They had a distinctive design, very much like the later Harrier aircraft; very rounded engine intakes and fuselage, typical of Hawker Sidley designers. Tornado was designed by a completely separate set of engineers at BAE Systems Warton site near Preston, which is why Tornado is very square in its shape as is Eurofighter Typhoon.
(same engineering team). So you ended up with different aircraft designs coming out of different design teams depending on what site. A peculiar querk of British Aircraft design back in the day reflecting the rich history and diversity in aircraft design in the UK over the last 80+ years. Fascinating machines although I have to say F35
(designed by Lockheed Martin) is a work of art; an incredible machine and is one of my favourites as is Eurofighter Typhoon.

I’m glad you point out the similarities with the Harrier, I thought the exact thing when I watched the video.. we certainly seemed to get value for money from the previous generations of aircraft. Reminds me of all the air shows I went to as a kid in the late 70’s and early 80’s. RAF Valley had amazing days.

It was a fascinating industry to be involved in for so long. Some really great times.

Great insights. I applied to BAE as school leaver but only got apprenticeship at Reckitt & Coleman. Cycled 6 miles from Cottingham to Dansom lane for 07:30 starts! Got lucky as 2nd reserve for RAF apprenticeship where I discovered the Bucc. Hugely popular with the old lags.
Seem to recall they excelled at low level - shape of fuselage made it had to fly in the sea / ground. Will look up the story where the ancient navy bomber beat Americans at big training event (Red or maple flag?).

This is first hand

Album is "Spiral" by Vangelis.

From pprune:

Director for the film was Hugh Hudson. His next film that had a Vangelis soundtrack won 4 Oscars and was called "Chariots of Fire".

Ah read this review on amazon and it says "
A very good collection of old RAF films which will appeal to anyone who was there at the time.
However, as a previous reviewer pointed out, there is no copy of Twelve Squadron Buccaneers (1978) nor is there any bonus material as stated. The disc ends with Regiment Counter Marching (1978).
All in all a nice couple of DVD's but where the final films have gone is a mystery and a little disappointing, hence 3 stars. "

Beware if this is indeed true.
