Just changed a headlamp bulb on the 4200. A '5 minute job' you understand, not.

Yes the igniter for the Xenons, there are some basic checks.

Pop open the hood. Make sure all the connections and wires are hooked up properly and aren't damaged in some capacity. If that's not the source of the problem, check the bulb itself for any damage or interference. Still not getting the light to turn on? Check the vehicle's fuses, and make sure they haven't been blown. Remember, a 30mA fuse is required for use with HID components. If the fuses too are in working condition, your last check should be on the igniter and ballast. For situations in which none of these components are the issue, there could be a more severe problem with your car's electrical setup that goes beyond the HID system itself. Test other components on your car to see if only the HIDs are affected, and get your car checked out at the shop, if necessary.

The other thing could be the battery but swapping the ballast over will prove it one way or another.

Just ensure any checks on HID lights are done when the ignition is OFF...the voltage and ampage to the units after the ballast are very high and will give you a seriously bad shock.

thank you guys.
Let me repeat that the problem does not occur evey time, but 7 in 10 times. And always on the co driver side. Is It the same check procedure as described above?

Hi Nicos

I have Xenons but this was a U/S main beam (H9 bulb). It's just a pita to change it, and it does help if you have tentacles instead of hands due to restricted access.

Good luck with yours

Not worth it Nikos. Any aftermarket one will do the trick if you're not precious about using Maserati parts

To be honest if I needed to change a headlight bulb on one of these I would jack it up and drop the wheel off, then the inner arch all that is 5 minutes and it will save knuckles and swearing as well as a heap of time...

I did the nearside 2 weeks ago. I jacked it up and went though the flap in the inner arch. I thought it was quite straight forward. Next time, if I remember I'll just turn the wheel on full lock.
The hardest part is identifying how to release the spring clip as you can't see and handle it at the same time.

Mine was the offside main on my 4200. The flap is too small to be of use (it is for my hands anyway) which meant removing the wheel and the forward arch liner, and getting covered in dust.

An easier option would be to pay Halfords £2.50 to do it, if you trust them with your P and J that is.

Hah - you've not tried the fog light bulb on a 3200 have you - that's a PITA

Nope, I preempted that by selling my 3200 before any bulbs failed, lol.

The arch liners on the 4200 have a fibre coating which holds more cr@p than the average Hoover. When you remove a liner it's like a Sahara'n sandstorm.

When you remove the liner on a 3200 all you find is an irremovable inter cooler between you and the bulb - bu##er
