Boot Lid & Fuel Cap Not Working?!

Hi All,

So two separate issues but they may be connected…2013 MC Shift

1. The fuel filler cap won’t open pressing the button to the right of the steering wheel…no sound even like it’s trying to open?
I’ve taken the mechanism apart at the fuel cap (opened using the emergency release) and seems to function ok moving back and forth.

2. The boot lid won’t open from the button on the boot but will from the key fob and button to the right of the steering wheel…can hear a click when pressing it but nothing?
The rubber was pushed in but I’ve straightened that out so it should be functioning.

It’s like there’s no power getting to either but can’t see anything obvious from fuses

Anyone had similar or knows how to fix??

At the risk of stating the obvious, have you got the ignition turned off when pressing the fuel button? (I always get caught out as on my 360 the ignition has to be on to open the fuel filler)

Re boot opener. I had the same issue, turned out to be a broken lead within the flexible rubber hose.

@Bladerunner I've had issues with both.

1. Fuel filler cap - I was at the petrol station a few weeks ago and pressed the button on the console, but it would not release and open despite multiple presses. However, when I put my finger nail in the cap it managed to release itself. I had just finishing washing the car, so I believe the pressure washer probably pushed the cap in too far the locking mechanism.

From what you've described and with taking the mechanism apart it's probably not the same issue.

2. Boot lid - I also have the same problem and I've never managed to fix it. I don't go into the boot often, so just do with the key fob or console.

As per Bebs - Poss broken wires in the ones that go to the boot area.

There should be a red cord under the passengers rear seat to pull the boot open.

Also a cord for the emergency fuel cover inside the rear compartment behind the fuel filler area

Cheers for the replies, success on the fuel cap, WD40 around the spring etc and a bit of patience, seems to have it working again!

No change on the boot handle so will look into it further - could be damaged wires

Check to make sure the rubber cover is not pushed in and locking the microswitch down. Mine did this. 45 second fix

C

My first GT did this. I had to strip it a bit and re-assemble, but never had an issue after. I think people push on it a bit hard sometimes by trying to lift the lid using the button.

@Bladerunner I had a few hours spare this afternoon so decided to tinker around with the boot release issue. I've somehow managed to fix it. It now works by pressing the button above the license plate.

I went into the car, closed the door, put the key in the ignition, turned the key until the lights on the dash came on (without starting the engine), left it like that for 2 minutes, pressed the lock and unlock button 4 times for the doors.

I saw a similar sequence on another thread and like magic it works.

Yeah the lock unlock etc would be required if you'd disconnected your battery or it was flat. Worth a try.

@Grantoonriusmo Can you link me to the original thread? I tried what you said but didn’t seem to do anything…I assume you meant the lock/unlock buttons under the A/C control unit?

@Bladerunner I failed to say that it was a thread on a different forum. I'll try and find it again.

Yes, 2 buttons under the AC.

Do you have the settings in the Config menu un-ticked for the independent door lock AND boot? What I discovered was that if the 2 options are ticked, you have to double press the unlock button on the fob for the boot to work.

That makes perfect sense. I had a new battery installed 12 months ago. I also disconnect my battery when I'm away on business or holiday.

Oh right, no wonder I was struggling to find it!
I found reset instructions for a QP but I guess it must be different parts as it referred to a spring and manually locking the boot while it was open which didn’t seem possible on the GT.

Not sure on the config, holding the boot button on the fob opens it fine…it’s purely the manual operation by pressing the boot switch above the number plate which isn’t working.

@Bladerunner If you go into your infotainment system. Go into the config menu, then into the door and locking option. I think there's 3 options. Make sure the last 2 options are un-ticked.

Apologies again, I'm not great at explaining things.

When I was referring to unlocking the car with the fob, I was talking about the alarm, not the boot. For example if you leave your house and disable the car alarm, press the unlock button twice (not the button for the boot) on the fob. Then try and press the switch under the license plate and see if it releases.

UPDATE: I found the thread. Go to the 3rd page and look for the comment from "btbales" Good luck

When you press it gently, can you feel the switch gently click?

If not, its stuck in as per earlier posts and just needs a fettle.

Yes, it was pushed in but now I corrected that rubber surround I can hear the click when pressing it. So I’ll give a couple of the latest suggestions on the reset process, a go over the weekend

Brilliant, it worked!!
Put the key in the ignition and pressed the lock/unlock on the key while it was in and after 4-5 presses of each alternately I then heard a buzzing sound suggesting it reset.
Went to the boot and hey presto, opened from the handle.

thanks a lot for the help guys :alan:
