I got an email with pictures of the ongoing restoration of my Bora today, along with the message "all thats left now is the rear lower panel, which we are fabricating a new one at the moment" so who knows it might finally make it back on the road next year.

Here are the pics

Great job. Were the sills originally aluminium? They were on my old Merak. Possibly steel on the Bora?

I thought they were usually black to narrow the profile. Memory probably playing tricks these days.

Were they not brushed stainless like the roof?

Some cars have stainless steel sill covers but my car (when I asked Andy Heywood at McGraths about this some years ago he was of the opinion) would apparently have had body coloured sill covers which is what it has had in all the time I have owned it.

Looking really good, I look forward to seeing some more.

I normally picture the sills as black but for some reason seem to remember something about black or colour coded depending on age.

Looks like its coming along really nicely panel gaps are good, what colour are you painting it and are you doing anything mechanical as well?

I love the Bora - hope to see it next year. There is something so understated and cool about them - my favourite mid-engined 70's car.

Hope all is well with you.

Another beauty in your collection, Robin. We should organise a SM meet near to you and then have a guided tour of your collection. I'm not sure which car would be the star attraction!

Can we put in requests for what you buy next? I'd like you to buy a Jaguar XJ12C - a guilty pleasure that I'd love to own but am terrified of repair/running costs!

It was metallic blue before and I have got the original colour name and code from the factory so it will be painted Blue Ischia as it was when it left the factory.

In the time I have owned it pretty much all the running gear has been rebuilt, the gearbox was fully rebuilt and the engine had a top and rebuild after a head gasket problem, so mostlyeveything will be cleaned up and put back on.

A few minor jobs will be attended to which were impractical to do before, for example the wipers didn't self park, so a new wiper motor will be installed which involves taking the dash out which in turn involves having the screen out which had to come out to paint the car anyway. At the same time the dash will be retrimmed in new alacantra. Other than that we will see what needs replacing as the car goes back together.

Sounds like a plan, I am only 15 miles from Silverstone so maybe do something over the Classic weekend or something?

First job for next year is to move on the five cars I have pretty much decided need to go, then think about what if anything to add.

One project will be sorting restoring my Mini, plan is to drag it out of the lock up where it is sitting and assess it over the Christmas/New Year period and then decide on a course of action for it. I have a fair idea what I want to end up with just a case of working the best way to end up there.

Other than that I will probably be looking for something V12 and something interesting that was only ever available in LHD - something along the lines of an Alfa SZ for example.

You shouldn't have shown me that, Mike!

Not a V12, but this is a lovely thing...

They were displaying at the NEC Classic Car show, and they are only in the next town from me in Huddersfield.
When I was at school my mum and another mum used to take it in turns doing the school run, and she used to have a xjc, so spent many hours in the back of one, always loved them from that point on!
I have naughty thoughts of a 6.0 HE V12 slipped under the bonnet of one!

New update received today with three pictures.

"I have attached an invoice for the final stage of metal work- which is now finished!!

We just need to complete the final preparation before painting (filling etc.), we anticipate it to go to the paint shop in 2 weeks, which I have pre booked.

Pictures attached show the new sills and lower rear panel."
