Hello everyone.

Some time from now I will need to replace the front discs on my 2002 4200.
What do you use around here?

I already spoke to the guys at Formula Dynamics but the quote for shipping is just to high(I live in Portugal)
To that I would still have to pay customs so it is just out of question.
Maybe you guys in the UK can advise me towards a good and more affordable solution.

Thanks

Brembo discs for the Ferrari 550 Maranello are the right ones to go for, so contact your local Brembo retailer. In the UK there are several online suppliers who may be cheaper, but not sure how much they would charge for shipping.

Thank you for the replies, I will look into that. The 550 discs are exactly the same sizes as the 4200 right?

Exactly the same size. I've got 550 discs on the front and a set of rears that came yesterday and will be fitted next week.

The Ferrari 550 Maranello Discs are the same for the 3200 & 4200. Before you fit them, paint the outside of the centre hub with heat resistant paint - silver, they will then stay looking good, otherwise they will rust slightly on the hub..!!
You should be able to get Brembo Discs either in Portugal, or somewhere more local to you..!!

Believe it or not, it is cheaper to have almost everything shipped from the UK than buying it here in Portugal...

Benny why are you changing to the 550 discs? Are they better than the stock ones or you just needed new ones?

Luke, they are the same disks, it seems if you go and ask for Maserati disks you will pay > £1,000 for a set whereas if you ask for 550 you can get direct from Brembo! You can spend the extra if you want!

You can't buy Maserati discs from Brembo because of licensing issues and if you ask for them you get told to contact Maserati. However, it has been discovered by a very astute forum member that they are the SAME discs as fitted to the Ferrari 550. However, because Ferrari don't have the same licensing as Maserati you can buy them direct from Brembo. So, by asking for 550 discs you are actually getting 3200/4200/GS discs for about a quarter of the price. You would be daft not to!

Never really looked into this before, but it has been said the pads are the same too, so having a search, yes indeed the pads do cross reference with identical part numbers (EBC pads). So Ferrari 550 pads can be used too!
I can only assume therefore that 550 calipers are the same, apart from Ferrari on the side of course, then of course if you search for 550 brake upgrades, there are plenty, which should fit I guess as well.

How often is it recommended changing the discs on our cars?

Figures advised to me by main dealer Inspection report:

Front new 32mm, replace 30mm
Rear new 28mm, replace 26mm

That really isn't a lot of disk wear Mike, I have taken ridges off mine deeper than 1.0mm so I must be over the wear limits then, oh well add to the list then. Who is coming up cheapest for the 550 Brembos?
