Hi guys

Following on from the brilliant info supplied by the great members here, I recently ordered some new Ferodo pads (FDB451 & FDB998) for my '02 4200 from Opie Oils.

Their service and comms have been brilliant and the price was also awesome with the discount we on the forum get (just type in MASERATI in the discount code area to get the savings)

What makes it even more amazing is that, from point of order to arrival, it all took less than 6 days and I'm in Australia!!! Now THAT'S what I call service

I think it's worth noting the good service providers (as well as the bad ones) and these guys were certainly very impressive as far as I'm concerned. Thoroughly recommended.

Cheers

Hi Gary
Can you post some details on Maseratioz as we might get some interest in a group order out of Melbourne.
Cheers

Just had a look on the site and they do not list the 4200 model only the 3200, however i think the parts are common.

That said why are Ferrodo pads so much cheaper than EBC's?

That's correct - on one of the many great posts on this subject someone did say they are only listed under the 3200GT rather than any of the other models and that's where I found them. Some folks have the 4200 and they have them I think...well I hope I've read that correctly or else I've wasted my money as I have a 4200 ha ha!!

As for the cheapness, well I don't really know. I do believe the people that are running them are generally very happy with them and for me, I just poodle around with occasional flashes of fun and I don't ever (and will never) 'track day' my car so if they do the job for routine driving then I'll be delighted.

a great saving, i spent £150 just for the front pads for oe spec for my 3200ac (i think their pagid) but i dont track so could probably have saved a bit, i tend to lavish my 3200ac that does 1000 miles a year and the other cars get whats on offer

I think the pagid pads are OEM but allegedly these Ferodo ones are pretty good. I guess we live and learn and you'll know for next time! The guys on this forum certainly know their stuff and can save both time and money in equal parts with their knowledge and connections!

The 3200 should be lavished and cherished - other cars are designed to receive the dribs and drabs of what's left but not our Masers!

Good stuff!

Just wondering if there was any reason you chose to go for the Ferodo pads instead of the GreenGripper option?

certainly in the case of the 2500ds they are supposed to work as normal without fading at higher temps and not needing warmed up to an operating temp for full effectiveness from cold

Also, according to the posts of those who bought the Green Grippers, there is an awful lot of time-consuming filing of the pad to be done to actually get them to fit. I have zero knowledge/ability/tools when doing mechanical stuff to cars so would be using someone to fit the brakes up for me and, of course, time = money. My indie charges $100 per hour (Main Dealers are 3 times this probably!) so you can see how the need to spend a couple of hours filing the things down would negate any savings...!!

Thanks all

What about the FDB's FDB998 and FDB451 any thoughts when compared with the GreenGrippers?

Ah OK - even so, with me not doing them the cost would be a little more. That was the main reason I was put off by them plus someone mentioned some noise from them (not sure on what post as there are quite a few linked to brakes) Even so, if the Ferodo's don't suit then I'd go the Green Grippers if the shaping/filing of them only takes minutes then clearly it'd be something I'd be interested in. To be honest the cost of them are so reasonable respectively that it's hardly an expensive gamble.....

I've not actually had them fitted yet. I'll be buying the new discs as per the Forum advice/discussion on the 550 ones but will probably not have the lot fitted up until January/February next year unless I actually need them earlier.

By the way, does anyone know if there is a low-pad warning light attached to the brakes on the 4200?? Appreciate there's not one for the discs but is there one for the pads??

No noise from the GGs Gary....noise from one or other of the Ferodos I think...some one will let you know

Maybe I just mis-read it then. Either way I'll give the Ferodo's a run now seeing as I've got them and decide whether to keep them after a few thousand kms....if I don't like them then easy enough to change them I guess (or rather easy enough for my Indie to change them!!)

He's a Maser/Fezza/Lambo factory-trained Indie who, believe it or not, charges very reasonable labour rates for over here. The Main Stealers charge $1,000 just to plug in the SD tester (he charges $200) and the MS rates are three times that. Even my ride on mower repairer labour charge is $110 per hour so I don't think he charges too badly all things considered! Another example of how a mini-market over here leads to very little competition and an ability to charge what they want. A friend of mine has a GS (the only other person I know/have ever seen with a Maser here in Brisbane) and had a 'normal' small annual service at the Main Stealers with nothing wrong and nothing replaced and it was $2,500! He now goes to my mate! That was the main reason my mate left the MS - he was factory trained, did the courses in Italy then buggered off and set up his own garage with a like-trained partner.....they stole loads of Ferrari work and probably most of the Maserati and Lambo work from the area too!! And he's a Pom too :)
