Too many AM's driven by a fat/balding middle aged men with a 007 style plate continually looking sideways to see who's looking at them. Sums it up.

I think maserati.....

When i tell people i drive a maserati they seem shocked and think im loaded ....

I'm noticing this too. They assume that they all are well over 100k AUS even second hand. Well the GT's are but not the earlier cars.
I get comments like
"You drive a maserati?" with shock written on their face
"business must be good".
etc etc

Yeah, as a cosultant never tell your client you're buying a maserati...they start to look harder at your rates! Even if its a 10 year old spyder...

Mine is a company car but I wouldn't dare let my clients or colleagues know about it. When I start using it to go and see clients, I will not be parking it directly in front of the clients place.

I think brand image is all about desirability and can be measured by the amount of people who aspire to the marque...Although I would love to say Maserati it just isn't true....We love Maserati fpr a number of reasons the history and passion of the marque being one but as cars nuts we get it but that is not the case for non car people....but you can bet if you put a load of non car people in a room and ask them to put their hand up if they would like a Aston or Maserati most would go Aston..........I think it has got much better for Maserati since the GT came out as more and more people are beginning to see them around and the styling has really caught on but Aston Martin has history with 007 which has really caught the imagination of the nation over the years.....This has helped the brand and desirability and this has really moved on it image.

I drive mine all the time......why be ashamed/embarrassed about it........what have you got to hide, or what does it say about your clients if they then treat you or your work differently.....

Nothing to be ashamed about but unfortunately a lot of people would perceive it as "he's making too much money, we'll give the job to someone else".
It SHOULD be that they say, business must be good because he does a good job therefore we shall use his company, but sadly it isn't usually the case.

I have heard many people make derogatory comments about real estate agents for example driving nice cars. Maybe it's jealousy, maybe it's tall poppy syndrome.

Although my car is not expensive, it is perceived to be.

My brother in-law - a notorious non-petrol-head - summed it up when I got mine: "If you'd got an Aston I would have had to kill you. I LOVE Astons." The triumph of perception, brand strength and the 007 image we all aspired to as school-boys (well.. I did).

On the cost aspect, a colleague (based in the Netherlands) and I worked out that on a monthly basis his company BMW 320 estate costs about 20% more than my GTS based on his lease cost and company car tax. OK, so his is new, all servicing, tyres etc paid for (including a fuel card) and he didn't have to put down a deposit, but the fact is that these cars are not as stupidly expensive as lots of people think. And most importantly they are far better, more joyful cars than most people will ever realise. The best kept secret in the motoring world?

Well the secret on running an 'expensive' car is always to buy it well - be it new or used - and keep it a long time to average out the depreciation. The annual drop on my GranTurismo is scary over the first two years but is ok over five years plus.

I've had plenty of people comment on my car - both directly and indirectly - through work but I take the view that if I only drove it at weekends then I would be missing out a lot on the ownership experience.

AM resorted to a picture of a woman p!ssing into a kitchen sink in order to try sell it's used stock. The subtext being... you poor people can't really afford her, but hey, sloppy seconds?......

Go AM... good way to connect with your prospective clientele.

Brand image?......??????

Miles, there is an obvious spelling mistake that gives away the fact that this ad is a mock up :)
