Was in a rush to get to a house viewing. Was running seriously late traffic was not moving some major accident down the road. I decided to turn left on a no left turn and wham. Camera car was hiding on the corner and has definitely caught me.

Is it just a straight £50 fine? Or do I get points as well?

IIRC, you may well get 3 points and a fine as its failing to comply with a traffic sign, which also covers things like failing to stop at a stop sign and overtaking on double white lines. However, don't quote me as my limited knowledge may be well out of date.

You are still alive and no one was hurt. It's just as well your front number plate was legal or they would have got you for that as well! Worse things happen at sea.

I'm sorry. There is clearly some kind of sock puppetry going on here. Moderators, can you lock BennyD's account until he can wrest back control from whoever has taken it over? It was credible for a while, but two voice of reason posts in one day simply proves it's an impostor ;)

You may be lucky and get offered a course instead of the fine and points. You'll find out in the next 2 weeks.

Benny is living up to his ex plod nature with recent posts. I'll remind him of these when he's doubling the speed limit on the way to LeMans! ******* hypocrite :)

I suspect he'd only be a hypocrite if he complained at being caught and fined.

Oh

As you were ;)

There is nothing more annoying than being trolled with sensible words. It's against the spirit of forums.

This may depend on the operators knowledge of the area. If they were positioned there to catch speeding cars they may not have clocked you unless they knew the surroundings... also you will not have triggered the 'speeding' warning on the camera system so the operator may have not seen you at all if he was bored and reading the paper...fingers crossed and all that.

You will get a fixed penalty fine (£50) but no points so I wouldn't worry about it. Happened to me in exactly the same situation 6 months ago. Sent me a link to a great video of me doing it!

Reference Royal Borough of Kingston website. Responsibility for enforcing some moving traffic offences, including contravening no left turn signs (offence code 50) passed to this council in September, 2013. Unless you have also turned against a green ahead only traffic light filter then this is not an endorsable issue. Kingston have a scale of charges according to the type of contravention eg parking but for this category the fine is £130. You would expect the picture nationally to be similar.

As of earlier this month Eric Pickles has pushed through legislation that $camera cars (local authority) are not now able to be used for issuing parking tickets (except outside schools at certain times), parking tickets now have to be fixed to the screen. As a result the $camera cars are turning their attention to 'honey pot' junctions like the one you got pinged at... It is all about raising revenue for the local council or if you like it is stealth tax....

You can fight it if the signage at the junction is not to regulations check out: http://notomob.co.uk/discussions/index.php There are quite a number of identified junctions on there where you could claim precedent and get it overturned...
