Hello. Is it normal to see 115 deg C at stop and go traffic. Reduces to 90C at normal driving.

Thanks

Hi Catman. Issue is with a friend's 4200 and fan/radiator is ok.

Not a good thing. One other things you can check: Is the system pressurising, if the header tank cap is not maintaining pressure you'll have issues. Stat might not be opening properly. If I was your friend, I'd have it to a mechanic without further ado. If it's overheating, it could get very expensive.

Thanks Catman, will have these checked. Especially as it's getting warmer around here.

Can I ask what your oil pressure reading is when it hits 115 degrees?

If it's reading a third or more I would say your getting a bogus temp reading. At 115 degrees the oil would be so thin you would be lucky to get 1 bar of pressure and that would throw the oil pressure warning light.

If it's constant no. Went for a last in the GTS a couple of days ago and looked down at the temp gauge whilst being sat in traffic/stopped and it likes to just below 120 so I turned off the engine and restarted which resulted in a normal reading. SItuation normal "It's Italian" I thought and carried on my merry way! :D

Be proactive, if temps are rising then check thermostat, coolant leak, rad pipes and also head gasket/compression. No car should rise above 90-100 whilst in traffic unless there is a fault or they are Air cooled.

All the 4.2 and 4.7 engines have a little coolant hose at the back of the engine only about 75mm long that with age leeks at where it joins the metal pipes and commonly splits wide open done a few down here.
Never known one to blow a head gasket yet.

there are two cooling fans that come in at different temperatures, make sure both of these are running

Bearings in both fans in mine went last month. Aircon not keeping up with outside temperature & engine running hot - get them checked.
