Buying a GT, what to look for?

Hi guys,

I'm keen to buy a Granturismo (or XKR) very soon. My budget is between £20-25k so I'm looking at 4.7 post-variator models (2011/12), around 50k miles. I want the ZF as I live in London.

From reading about on forums it seems the main jobs that don't have an affordable aftermarket replacement are the subframe, control arms and suspension. I haven't read anything about engines failing so far.

Is there anything I need to be looking out for?

Suspension arms can be rebuild by a company in Slovenia or if you have access to a press and are handy with spanners can be done by yourself. The bushes are available separately.

There’s a lovely Med Blu one for sale on AT, £26k in Stockport. I’ve sold it a few times and viewed it a few weeks ago, worth a look as it’s a Sport Pack car, Larini’d and very well looked after over the years.

Ps there’s a lot to look for, so get a ppi done, it’s the best £250 you’ll ever spend.

Would you expect a fairly sorted car for that price or a list of immediate works?

I know these cars are getting on a bit now so there will be things to fix, just want to avoid the big ones straight away!

I’d expect a sorted car at £25k from a reputable dealer. At £20k you’d likely to be buying a huge problem. Sadly the majority of cars at that price point will be poor examples requiring significant spend to get up to being right.

Thanks Richard, that makes sense. I don't mind bringing a car up to spec if it's priced right! It's hard to get a gauge on prices right now since it's only 4.2s completing on auction sites.

Don’t buy a 4.2 and don’t buy at auction. If you want to call me for advice try me tomorrow. I’ll let you know all about them, but won’t try to sell you one as I don’t have any!!
