Can anyone recommend a reputable car transport company

I would once again like to draw on the collective wisdom of the forum if I may. I am buying a Gransport in London and was planning on driving it home to Aberdeen in NE Scotland. I am starting to have second thoughts on that as I am so busy and started to wonder how much it might cost to put the car on a transporter and roughly what this might cost. Any ideas on companies you would trust with such a car and guesstimates on cost would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Hi Mondie
I know that some members have used this kind of service, but they be either in Paris, or at Llandow. Wait until after the weekend and you should get some answers.

Although much further, I did get a quote to take a car transporter load to Nice...They stated £1800...which for 12 cars I thought was great!...Called them back just to confirm and they said ...oh sorry thats per car! Said no thanks £20k madness.

Well you are talking over a 1000 miles round trip, unlikely to split the journey with another load coming back down.
Do diesel cost, and wages for 2 for two days, would amount to near £1,000. Then cost for using the transport and profit on top, I would imagine therefore £1,500? As an approximate estimate?

I'm flying to London on Monday 15th and returning on Thursday 18th. If it helps I could drive it back. You may not feel comfortable with someone else driving your new car I won’t be offended at all, but the offer stands and may be of some help.

Try shiply.com. I've used it a few times - you put in your postcodes and transporters bid for the job - often pricing low as a backload (i.e. they have a journey already planned in one direction only, so take a booking for the journey back). As a rough guide, you might expect to pay 70-80p per mile, doing it this way.

They also have a rating system (like ebay) and you can see what your vehicle will be transported in. Best are covered trailers like a Brian James Shuttle or Race Transporter.

There is the germ of a business here. I've often had the same conversation with biking mates, and we've often looked at the prices of getting our bikes shipped to the south of France, or Spain, and the costs are just prohibitive. There must be enough demand to make a viable business for someone.

Thanks Dave, i will PM you now.

Appreciate the offers to drive the car, it still might work out that I have time to do so myself. If I can move the car at 80p per mile then the cost of transporting it will not be that great and the savings vs. driving it not huge. We'll see next week.

They clearly misunderstood you and thought you were wanting to buy their truck, not utilise it with a driver for a mere couple of days :)

I thought I had a solution through the dealer today, BCA were offering 480 quid through their wholesale network but when the dealer spoke to them this arvo they were baulking at that. I may very well just drive her home. See what he can work out tomorrow I guess.
