Car plans for 2023

Not really for 2023, but in 2024 I plan to cash in a couple of investments, payoff the small mortgages on the buy to let’s and then take a look at my cars.

It will be crunch time for the Strad, couldn’t bring myself to to sell it last time I reviewed my cars but I will ah e the opportunity to step it up a level (in terms of value).
- I have never fallen for the Audi BMW thing, have no interest in a Porsche (apart from perhaps an early 911.
I will be looking in the £150k bracket and the only thing that might temp me out of the Strad would have to be a V12
- DBS
- FF
I would look to stay with Maserati but not sure the MC20 would work, too much of a “supercar” for me.

This would make a good new thread. Best V12 at £150k. Lots of options (but no Maseratis).

Having bought the Aston back in April as a telephone bidder at auction, I finally got to see and drive it for the first time yesterday. After the auction it was collected by low loader and taken off for restoration and recommissioning (have not been driven for 10 years). Now it’s home and fighting fit.

Gorgeous, just gorgeous ;)

Since I first posted back in April nothing has actually changed much, the Biturbo and '68 Cooper are still here but a mate is keen to buy the Cooper once he's moved a couple of his classics on. If it goes the Maser can go back into the safety of the garage but if it doesn't sell this side of Christmas I might spend a few more sovs on it, since it came back from McGrath's I've been using it a bit and it really needs a new set of tyres. I've grown quite attached to it again but still want something else and now that Mrs'P5's late Mum's probate is finally coming through we might be able to do something about it - I've sort of got my eye on a Urraco but we'll have to see what transpires. Wanting and having are two different things, but the wanting is often half the fun!

Please get a Urraco!!!

After almost 30 years of ownership I’ve sold my Cooper S race car. I got less than I wanted and the demands of a new bathroom gave me a limited budget. I wanted a car I could actually use so silly stuff was out. I was thinking about a QP for a long time but decided I didn’t want to deal with modern car troubles so started looking at classics. There’s so much rusty **** around in this country I decided to go further afield. 1962 Mercury Monterey, basically a slightly posher Galaxie, so big block Ford FE under the hood.

Just organising shipping from the US and then bit of fettling over the winter.

Cool, no one does excess like the yanks and if you look out for the less well known brands bargains are still to be had mate picked up a 69 Mercury Cougar GT with a 351 4 barrel for just over half the price of an equivalent Mustang

Heresy maybe, but would look great as a colour matched combination. A wrap would do it......
Couldn’t do that. It’s original paint!! I am slightly concerned that I’ve bought something so original that I shouldn’t use it. On the other hand I’m already surfing eBay for 4 barrel manifolds!

You do realise that you'll have to wear a tailored suit and matching trilby hat cocked at a slightly jaunty angle when driving it en route to the casting call for 'Mad Men', don't you...? ;)

(Admired it on Pistonheads yesterday - what a great buy!)

I’ve never actually seen Mad Men but I was thinking the other day, the boot is big enough to fit in what’s left of the horse after you’ve put the head on someone’s pillow.

Awesome - I can imagine how much fun you’ll have compiling playlists to match before it arrives.
