Mrs C had a Nextbase front and rear cam installed. Took them about an hour. Seems to work perfectly well (going to get one myself in fact)

I’ve used the Annke CCTV system from Amazon with hard wired cameras. Cheap and reliable and easily set up for the DIY installer, the app works nicely for live feed and you can set up alerts. I think it also markets as HiSense.

For car dash cams, does cheap also mean blurred and indistinct output?

Also what's with some that continually have a light on the front and a super bright screen? You can spot them from a mile away on a dark night.

As for home CCTV, I use reolink. They're easy to install. You can have a home recorder or a free cloud service for some of their cameras. Mine are 4k and the output is great.

To answer the OP, do your cameras have a sensitivity or area blanking feature?
Some cameras have a 'record on detection ' feature. So rather than continually recording they only start recording when there's a movement in its field of view. The blanking feature ignores certain areas of that field of view. The sensitivity feature will allow certain movements to occur such as rain or cats walking through but starts recording when a person enters. Might want to check those menus.

I will have to get the missus to check that one out , seems she has complete control and im only a shared user WTF without access to the controls
...are there reasons that she feels the need to keep you under constant surveillance?

Had an ex install a dashcam just so she could record running me over with her car. The joke was on her, as I effortlessly leaned into it and just rolled up the hood and off the fender...
