We get 28mpg out of our S3 and that's a few years old now. The newer engine is bound to be better.

There's one parked outside here - 13 months old and 10k on the clock, bought brand new. 28mpg is at the top end of what it averages.

Agreed Drew, similar thought process for me. That's why if I do go for "normal" finance, I'll choose PCP and protect some future value with a Guaranteed Future Value. It's swings and roundabouts, that's for sure! I'll most likely compile a wee spreadsheet and try to figure out the real price.

As a curveball, I had a look at the Bmw M4 and was offered 12% off list without much push. That brings it to £54k or so which then starts to look competitive against a Ghibli. It's the only BMW I like !

M4 is a cracking car, a mate has one. The single biggest complaint is the noise it makes - it sounds absolutely terrible! So much so that BMW have piped engine noise through the cabin speakers to make the driving experience better. My mate's M4 was sorted with a full Remus exhaust, which sounds considerably better. Coupled with the remap by Litchfield it now puts out 530bhp (dyno'd) and gets down the road like a scalded cat!

Low to mid 20s MPG-wise, though.

Talking of spreadsheets - that above might help in deciding the real costs of running Diesel or Petrol with various mpgs.

Anyone wants the Excel sheet, PM me an email address and I'll ping it across. Obviously it works better when you can put your own daily mileage numbers in!

That's the problem with mpg as it depends not just on driving style but also on type of roads. One thing I have noticed with all *** products over the years is that the mpg increases a fair but in the 10-20k mile range.

She can look forward to that then!

Interesting that the three letter acronym for products of the Volkswagen group gets blocked.

To be honest 25mpg for the performance doesn't put me off at all. Even 10k miles a year it's not too costly to run.

Just to go back a bit on the thread re MPG.

I had a MB C-class 2.2 diesel auto for the last week. I used it over the weekend for my own use then went from Bristol to Preston then a bit around the local area, then Lancaster, then Cumbria then Durham followed by Northumberland then back to Newcastle airport...use of fuel was 54 ltr at £61 of airport pricing diesel...I was astonished!!!

Congratulations Matt, looks like a great deal. So what is making way for this - the Alfa GT or the Fiat? Or is this car # 6, you can never have too many!

Yes Phil, your guy, I think we are just trying to put a hold on the car then we can get the paperwork done.

The Alfa GT is going, not sure what its worth but its 74k miles, mint and am reckoning £3.5k will get it if anyone on here wants her, PM me.

Just checked online and they are private £4-4.5k and dealer up to £6k for the same model, year and mileage.

Obviously being my car, its been looked after and never wanted for anything.

Cat C and repaired by me after light front ender 5 years ago and I had to whole car painted as I am a fussy git!

It had both wings, bonnet, front bumper, front cross member, grill, aircon rad, water rad, fan pack and AC pipes replaced new. AC has just been degassed and is ICE cold.

Its a very quick car but still returns 550 mile per tank if you drive it in town or motorway. Long runs you will get 600 miles out of the tank and its about £75 to fill her up.

Front end (bonnet, wings and bumper) has just been done again due to stone chips.

Its just have both lower wishbones (TRW) replaced and both front shocks (Bilstein B3)

Cambelt is due next year (£200 inc parts/labour/waterpump) and the rear tyres will need doing at some point, 10 months MOT.

Alfa Red, black leather with BOSE/Cruise etc. Alloy wheels are unmarked. Its been a great workhorse and never let me down.

Mileage was 17k when I bought it.

Its the one on the LEFT!!!!

Sounds like a nice Alfa Matt, I had a JTD GT too a number of years ago - lovely looks & great on fuel too. I can't see it hanging around for long
