When I got my GTS I just assumed the steering wheel was worn, I just thought il get it recovered one day

Then last night I was sat in it and thought hmmm wonder if I could clean it, so a quick google came up with this link https://www.carthrottle.com/post/GV7W7u/

So this morning I got up early as I wanted to give it a try, and well I'm so impressed, I didn't realise this was possible, came up so well, mine was far far worse than the example in the link, it was matted and smoothed off completely and very sticky, you can see in my photo were I scraped my nail over it

Good job mate well done. Fortunately I do not have that problem. But I do have Alcantara elsewhere, so it is good to know

Very nice. I did mine with one of those steam buggy things and the bristle brush attachment, gave a brilliant result and just melted the grime and you wipe off.

Makes you think...next time you eat whilst driving....yuck.

All that sweat and grime from previous owners all topped up up with the filth you get off petrol pumps...Im rather anal when it comes to the hire cars I get each week and wipe down the wheel, gear stick and stalks...never know where the previous drivers had their finges!

Thankfully the only place in marci there is not alcantara is the steering wheel! Lol
Handy tip though.

Bought an Audi a while ago with alcantara steering wheel and gear knob. They were both yucky and like previous poster said who knows what has touched them before!
I replaced both at a cost of about £300 but the car is so much nicer to drive with clean things to touch!
That is the problem with alcantara, so hard to properly clean unlike smooth surface materials.

Yup, it's great stuff Alcantara. I loved it so much in my Lancia that we bought our sofa covered in it. Twenty-odd years later that sofa comes up like new with a bit of cleaning.

Decided to give mine a go. The pictures don't do the transformation justice. For the sake of 10 minutes effort (tops) and about 2p of Persil, the difference is appreciable. Did the door pulls and gear-knob as well.

It's lovely to drive with though, ultra soft and I guess it will only need cleaning now and again, it's just often overlooked

Well done Ewan & Beau, they have come up well - you have put mine to shame, I must go outside & get scrubbing!
