Cleaning under the bonnet

After completing a few little jobs in the engine bay, today was the time to put the nicely cleaned and polished engine cover back on. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. There were grimy things under there. So I cleaned them. For the slightly grimy parts it was a damp rag, carefully avoiding the electrical bits, and for the king and queen of grime, the tops of the suspension points, a toothbrush and an aerosol can of water soluble degreasant followed by lots of disposable kitchen roll and degreasant, carefully avoiding any disturbance of the all important skyhook wire.
Before: Grimy
After: Clean ( though not really gleamy)
After some more: No one knows, because the cover is back on.
No one, that is, but me. I know. And it feels good. Gleamy.:)

Just look at the grime!

Very nice, Alan - good work! Like the 'tan line' where the Maserati paint shop finished because no one will see beneath the engine cover. :)

All the manufacturers do it now it saves ££££££ in the cost of paint started by Ford originally when the Company asked employee's how they could save money and this is what he suggested and got given a £100 for it and annoy petrolhead around the World for it too.

Good effort, this may have inspired me to venture under my engine cover and give things a good clean.

As you say it would have been a tad more satisfying if they had painted it, nether the less it’s clean and cared for which counts for a lot.

Astonishing really.
Maserati could not be bothered to paint it but here I am cleaning and polishing it.
They got a lot of other things right though, didn't they.

Actually, I dont think I will ever come up with a car I could replace it with. I like it and the way it drives so much. :)
mostly agree.
Have not wiped a rag under the bonnet for some time.
Did wash and dry the QP last weekend. Just back from 3 days in Edinburgh with mates and could not think of a better way to travel. Sleeping wives in the back, sweeping bends from A1 to M6 along the Clyde was delicious. Slipped into lane one for M6 hypoermile. Whole trip on single super unleaded tankful.
Bonus sighting classic shape 2 door Bentley, thought it was Continental R until we googled the reg but 2008 Brooklands Every day is a school day.
