Nowhere near Berkshire, but I'd recommend Autoshield every time. Marios changed my clutch last year - the best price I could find and certainly the best service.

Mine was mixed in with some other work so I can't split it out easily, but think it was around £2k all in with everything renewed. Call Marios and discuss with him - I recommend you get a new flywheel, new release bearing, spigot bush etc whilst it's all apart. Don't skimp on anything as around half the cost is labour and you don't want it all to come out again for the sake of a £200 part.

You can have the flywheel resurfaced. It really doesn't need to be new but you should definitely do as MAF stated and tend to it. I think you can resurface these at least twice and still be within specs. It should only cost you about $50-100 USD. Additionally use Hill Engineering's throw-out bearing, don't use an OEM one. Lastly, make sure to get the PP and Fly wheel balanced together. I was just discussing this with another member on the ML forum. He bought a car that had just had the clutch replaced on it. He was getting a vibration to the point it was like he was getting a foot massage every-time he drove it.

Long story short it was an Indie who thought he could just throw the clutch on there because "they had both been balanced separately at the factory". He took the car to a dealership, they took it apart balanced the clutch and found that was the issue.

Just my two pence.....

All valid points, Craig. I had a new flywheel fitted because it had a lot of heat marks on it. Given they're only £200 or so I thought I'd be cautious and replace with brand new. I had a OEM release bearing fitted which still seems fine after 10k miles. What's the difference with the HE version?

I had the same concerns with heat spots on my flywheel, I roasted my clutch from driving it in 6th down to about 10-20 miles an hour trying to get home. I knew better but I didn't want to sit on the side of the road. There was no way to shift it out of gear with no hydraulic pressure. Unless it's warped, something extremely difficult to do with this thick of a fly wheel, or you have burnt it up so much that heat cracks have come all the way through the top of the fly wheel (equally as hard to do). It will be fine. I haven't seen a fly wheel burnt up as bad as mine yet, and with the resurface it looked brand new, performs perfectly. Here's some photos for reference:

For the thrust bearing we've had a few people who have had pre-mature failure with the OEM one. A gentleman had to disassemble his GS after the OEM one started howling.....that was at 10,000 miles. I think actually Eurospares, Maseratiusa, and another distributor sells them in their stores now because of it. I think the seals also might have been at issue. Hill Engineering has their seals already seated in their bearing. You don't have to fool with them it's set up ready to go.

Emblem recommend a replacement flywheel when you do the clutch and given the price it would be foolish to try and save a few pounds, same is true of the bearings the labour in stripping it all out again in the event of a problem will blow any savings. Big jobs do them properly once is my philosophy.

I don't personally know Emblem, but I verified the specs with ECS of Virginia who is a Master Mechanic from Virginia specializing in Exotics. Additionally there's an Independent Jason@Enzos of Atlanta, both are forum members of Maserati life. ECS is a forum sponsor. Both verified the information. There is an exact science behind flywheel resurfacing. I don't specialize in Exotics like ECS (Josh) but I am a mechanic. Please do whatever you feel is necessary.

I'm not the one working on the car. But if I was I would guarantee the work on it using the resurfaced flywheel.

I have sent six enquires out to various specialists all asociated with the forum in one way or another ,i emailed Emblem resterday and there have replied today with there prices ,the others i have emailed today ,I'll await from the others and post my findings .Hopefully this will give other members a good price guide country wise
.I myself will have to take into account traveling costs etc as I may have to travel a distance to achieve the best price ,all the independents emailed have a very good reputation so I suspect the work undertaken will be of a comparative standard who ever I may choice .

I'll be interested to read the results Maverick. On a like for like basis I'd expect the costs to be similar, but maybe not?....

It will come down to Labour costs. I think I know already who will be cheapest by a country mile.

That's an exceptionally low labour cost from Shiltech, must be sub-£40 per hour. Make sure the trainee mechanic doesn't do the job to help manage costs!
