It could break down.....Not sure I would take an Alfa for your 200 mile round trip.....Maybe its because I have been burnt twice with Alfa and although I love them I have no faith in the product to be honest.

That's a real shame but once you loose confidence in a car, you're almost waiting for it to let you down I find

Says the man who bought six of 'em!

Alfa 155 1.8
Alfa 155 2.0 wide body
Alfa GTV twin Spark
Alfa GTV V6
Alfa 156 Sportswagon selespeed - Pile of poo.
Alfa GTV V6 - A lovely well sorted car.

Yep and enjoyed most....but bitten by two that have left a bad taste in my mouth......When I traveled a few miles to work not an issue but 100 mile round trip or further I wouldn't touch one.......Well maybe your 4c Pat...

I had a Volvo v40 for mile munching until recently. Doing around 25k miles per annum. Averaging 55mpg but it was an auto so you can get more. Mileage has dropped away so I've bought a Mini Cooper S for commuting which is great fun. They have very slow depreciation so perhaps a CooperD is worth thinking about.

+1 on the V40
I have a first generation v40 with the 1.9d engine.
The interior is dated and the engine is noisy by today's standards but mpg is great and the mechanicals are bullet proof
