Condensation.....

I've had some work going on in my garage which means no room at the Inn for the GS. So last week it lived outside.

I noticed it was getting loads of condensation insider and resorted to this forum to resolve.

I've inspected the heater fan for water - dry as a bone . the pollen filter housing - also dry, and checked the vent from the AC condenser - not blocked but ran an air line up it to be sure.

So I resorted to hiring a dehumidifier which cleared the windows pretty quickly and over the course of the day has collected about 1/2 pint of water.

I then looked at the Ed China DB7 video and thought "I know where there is a smoke machine....." Here's how I got on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpXDc1LLQ_Y

I don't think it is coming in at any of the points identified and the condensation reoccurs even when there is no rain.

The inside of the car is not really damp after the car has warmed up and does not smell musty or anything.

So any further things I can check?

I think most cars outside have this issue. All mine do.

And hold your phone sideways! ;)

Maverick had a similar issue and it was a block drain hole around the window/scuttle iirc.

Have you checked in the footwell and taken the transmission tunnel panels off. Mine has a busted heater core

Yes, had to do the drivers side to get to the condenser drain. Dry there too.

And I checked all the drain holes are free on the scuttle - no leaves or debris anywhere.

I put the smoke machine in the boot and that only emitted smoke from the bottom edge where the cable was shut in it.

I am a little baffled. I'm leaving the dehumidifier in overnight and will test it outside over the weekend and see what happens.

And I like 9x16 portrait mode video!

What about the bottom boot section (under the lift-up boot floor, in the bit where the spare wheel sits)? Several 3200 and 4200 cars have used these bowl sections as small swimming pools.

i would second the boot suggestion, and also add that running the heater with the AC off will always create condensation in my experience and if your air conditioning is working it should clear the condensation quite quickly? its not a car that likes the heater running without the AC on.

I bought some of those dehumidifier pads they seem to work well , my back window was wet under the cover but it dried out OK with them in

Mine now has a hole drilled in the bottom for this very reason! I asked why this happens, Mike Roberts said "because it's a 3200!"

Mine had the same, with the same explanation from David Askew too! He believes it comes in through the boot hinges. Apparently, he had his very obliging partner (she is quite small) curl up in the boot for a little while as David got the jet wash out and that's where it seemed to come in from

My first 3200 had this problem. It was a very early LHD car I got from Monaco before the RHD cars started coming to the UK. I put it down to "pre-production" build quality. But it so transpires that the build quality didn't change all that much! (Well, not in relation to this particular issue anyway.)

I've just remembered that I had a similar boot leak in one of my QP's. Water tracked into the boot from the top back left corner (by the base of the rear windscreen), around the opening for the black rubber cable that contains all the wiring. Emblem sorted it, thankfully.
