Could be Maserati less this time tomorrow

Well after having the car up for a couple of weeks I may have done a deal which could mean that by tomorrow evening I am no longer the owner of a Maserati.

As I thought I have not found a cash buyer yet however as I would only spend the money on another "silly" car I have arranged a swap with some money coming my way.
The car in question is below

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1966-Ford...1927840?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f27dff320

It's a 1966 Ford Mustang with the straight six engine and manual gearbox, it's not the perfect engine/gearbox combo but looks to be a nice original example.
This will be the oldest and probably the slowest car I have ever owned.

Anyone had any experiance? Any thing in particular I need to look out for

Looks good but a straight 6 with 3 speed manual isn't that desirable I wouldn't have thought. Shoehorn a small block V8 on open pipes and an auto box in and you might be on to something. Personally I'd have kept the 4200; I reckon the other guy is getting the better part of the deal, moving from old and slow to something classy and fast.

Oh dear...times a changing.

Avoid all corners over 35 mph

Not read all the blurb, but check ALL paperwork diligently, especially import papers and ownership.

Was there a lesser model , which can be morphed into one of the more sought after versions?

My thinking is that the mustang could be easier to sell on than the Massa, I never keep any car long and a 93k 4200 with a 90% worn clutch is only going to cost me more money over the next year.
However if the mustang is in as good condition as advertised and all the paperwork checks out then I can see there being more buyers for a Mistang around the 11k mark than a 4200 around 13k if the clutch goes.

I also have never owned anything as old or as slow!! So should be an experiance. If memory serves me right it's the 50th year of the mustang coming up as well so increased publicity in all the magazines and news ex could bump up prices.

As a Good V8 is upwards of 20k now then it should stand to reason that the cheaper less desirable models will go up as well.
If not I get to tick another icon of the list!!

I can see your point, the logic in it and I kind of agree with you. However, if this particular Mustang was so desirable surely it would have been snapped up rather than him having to part ex it. Perhaps he was having problems getting shut too. Anyway, I wish you all the best and hope you are right.

Don't get me wrong Benny you are spot on but I know of a similar priced Maserati that wasn't being snapped up and so I see it as they are probably about as good as each other as far as re-sale. If I was looking for a car to keep long term then the Massa would win hands down. however I am looking to experiance as many different cars as possible at the moment and will certainly be back for another Maserati.

Not just the car but the overall ownership experiance has been one of the best I have experienced, in this day and age the forums for me are a major part of the overall experiance and this is one of the best. I know from previous experiences with older cars I will be hard pressed to find a Mustang forum which is as helpful or friendly (mainly down to the age of the owners)
Also my wife will never let me get away without buying her a GRandtourismo at some point, however due to the prices this may have to be one for the future.

A sound strategy. I wish you the best of luck with it and, hopefully, it won't be too long before you are back in a GTS.
