thinking of adding cruise control to my 04 4200
is the indicator / cruise control stalk of an alfa romeo 166 the one that is the alternative part that fits & works ?
seem to remember seeing a thread on here about it a while ago.

also is it a simple case of swapping around & off you go ?

thanks .. chris ..

IMHO I wouldn't bother. Had it as standard on mine. Used it for all of 5 minutes once on motorway!

Thats right, the 166 part swaps straight over and on mine it was just plug and play. I use it rarely but find it useful for average speed cameras and the like...

Ive done the very same thing on mine. There are no new parts alfa parts available anymore. The one thing you have to watch out for is the nylon bush that knocks the indicators off after turning a corner on the 166 part is prone to wearing out. If the indicator cancel works on your car now then swap the white nylon bush from your indicator stalk on to the alfa part. It just pushes out with around 6 squeeze clips/lugs on the back.

Other than that is plug and play.

Also have it as optioned when new, and tend to agree.
One of those things that because you don't have it, you want it I guess.
Yes works fine, but because my car is not used as a regular miles muncher on the Motorway, hardly ever use it.

Have it on a couple of our others. It is useful for those pesky average speed cameras they seem obsessed with up here though.

I have had to retro fit this to two coupes, but it was spect from the factory on my first.

For the cost its a no brainer, and I use it on all my motorway trips to prevent cramp in my ankle....also good to press resume shortly after leaving the toll booths in auto and let the miles slip by.

quite a few scrappers may have less used ones than the stock on ebay.

As with Peter I use my cruise control on the 300km trip freeway trip from Canberra to Sydney.
I take the car out of sport mode to quiet down the Larini's and set the cruise so I don't get tempted to get too frisky.
The trip goes past the country town of Goulburn where the New South Wales police training academy is. So lots of cops around.
Our coppers have hidden parking spots where they can suddenly appear from.
The speed limit is 110kmh so I set it at 120 to 124kmh, just below the over 15 kph limit where the fine gets much more expensive. Given the big distances between towns they don't bother you on the highway at the speeds I set. In suburbia that's a different matter.
So I find cruise very useful here.

As an aside, my speedo seems to over read by about 10% so I always set it appropriately

10% of actual speed is pretty normal for the majority of modern cars. Built in safety measure? Hence the old police guideline 10%+2mph before clamping you in irons. Modern methods should make for tighter tolerances though.

I retrofitted it to mine it's easy to do and definitely plug n play, granted I don't use it a lot but on longer motorway journeys it is brilliant.
Make sure you follow the guide on here and be particularly careful to get the steering wheel back on straight!
There is also info regarding the self cancelling issue as well, best of luck.

It's not as much these days. My newer cars are only a couple of mph out at 40, the Maser more like 5.

I understand the five-o look to catch newer cars as they know they have more accurate speedometers...

Probably a selling point when you took it for a test drive. ;)
