Might as well do burn outs and 0-60's at least you get your moneys worth out the clutch! Rather than take care of it for the and it fail prematurely.

Mines 85% worn but still operates well, no invoice for when it was last changed but at least 5-6 years ago

The earlier clutches seem to last longer than the new replacement ones.
Did a few clutches at Maserati never once saw the collapsed fingers.
Main problem was slipping due to glazing from driving in Auto mode.

I have had three coupes with various states of clutch wear, but the 4200s appear to be more clutch tang friendly.

I guess the GS shifts being more aggressive may contribute to tang collapse.

Well its confirmed . Clutch tangs buggered . Clutch plate looks good and only 30% worn . If only they made them stronger ah? !

On a better note, F tech have checked the rear wishbone and said that it is not cracked as they first suspected .They have found a wobbly front shock bush and a nackered rear tie bar . This will explain the slight vibration i have over 120 mph and the rear end wiggle under acceleration .....which was highly annoying.

But the clutch needs a bearing and flywheel :broke:

F Tech could nt be more helpfull though , I would highly recommend them .

Bummer.

The tangs went on my old (now Mr Peas) motor with a similarly still fresh clutch.

Hence why my GS will be replaced by a GT Auto.

It will be like a new car Martyn...although since mine was done in October its not actually been driven except for moving it out the garage.

Well , im pretty sure my clutch has given up the ghost .

Started in yesterday and pulled away and noticed that it was slipping . Managed to get it home from the new forest .... got home and could nt get reverse , now its struggling to get first .

oh well .. at least it did nt go in Le mans ;P Its done 20,000 miles on this clutch .

Only 20000 miles ?

i always get minimum of 40000 miles !

try to re-calibrate the clutch by unplugging the battery for few minutes,
plug the battery then ignition on (don't start) for 15 seconds,
start the car and let it idle for 25 seconds without touching anything.

This procedure will calibrate everything including the clutch positioning.

hope this helps with the slipping, other wise the clutch would be gone.

all the best

EDIT: Sorry just saw the rest of your posts, that you have taken the clutch out of the car :argue1:

Getting off the subject for a mo, manual 3200 GT clutches only last around 20K at most... And there not available any longer until Sach's makes another batch!

Well i picked up my car from F Tech yesterday , and i can't recommend them enough . Tim came to meet me at the train station on a Sunday in his own time . We have a good chat about V8 s and all thing petrol releated . Then a quick tour round the stunning cars that were there for work . Then i fired up the old girl and drove home, What a differance . The clutch was so smooth and set up perfectly . And the Geo has made such a difference to the turn in and handling . Dan had also sorted out the rear shock that was sitting slightly too high on one corner .....at no charge .

I had to laugh , I was driving home along the duel carrageway when i spotted Tim behind me flashing his lights and waving. He pulled in in front of me and i saw the passenger window drop ....... So i dropped it a cog and floored it passed him and saw him laughing his head off at the noise of my antisocial exhaust.....Legend

Great service , great price and a couple of great blokes .

Car broken ?.......F Tech it !

Hi Martyn, sorry to hear your news.
You may consider upgrading to the F430 clutch and thrust bearing, as at least 2 cars over here I know of have.
The benefit is the wider tangs over the F360 clutch we have and bigger thrust bearing to take more load.
I driven Alvin's car in Melbourne with it and didn't really notice the difference, as I was more absorbed with his custom remap of the power curve. Another one in Sydney reports much smoother down changes with this set up.
It's the path I'll be taking when the time comes.
HI BL330, I'm up here in Sydney, and I have just had my 3rd clutch collapse in as many years. Same problem.........tangs or fingers. I have a 2007 Gransport. The car has never been on the track, never driven in Auto mode, is usually driven through only moderate traffic and rarely pushed hard. It has the Formula Dynamics DBW unit fitted. Even though the wear figures are often not all that accurate, the last 2 collapses have only been at 30% and 17% wear. I have looked through a lot of stuff on various forums trying to get the right info on the F430 conversion. There seems to be some confusion (or confusing information) as to which is the correct F430 product to use. There is mention of "F430GT3 car" and "F430 Challenge clutch kit part number: 225306" and I have to admit, I don't fully understand most of it. It appears as though it's only the F430 pressure plate that's used. I need to get some exact, detailed information about this conversion. Is Alvin the best contact? Can you help, or at least point me in the right direction?
